http://www.theroot.com/articles/culture/2015/01/ben_jerry_s_founders_support_blacklivesmatter_in_a_bold_display_of_solidarity.htmlIf someone had told me six years ago that Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfieldthe founders of Ben & Jerrys ice creamwould speak out against police brutality and anti-black racism with more conviction than the nations first black president, I would have laughed in that persons face....
Speaking at their annual franchisee meeting earlier this month in New Orleans, Cohen and Greenfieldwho sold Ben & Jerrys to Unilever Corp. in 2000 but who reportedly remain heavily involved in operationshave publicly declared themselves allies of the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Specifically raising awareness about the movements Hands up, dont shoot iteration, Cohen urged franchise owners to sell T-shirts benefiting the work of Hands Up United, a grassroots organization founded by St. Louis hip-hop artist and activist Tef Poe and activist Taureen Tory Russell.
Some people might say, Oh, we cant do that, Cohen said to franchise owners. We cant sell those T-shirts in our shops; its controversial. But isnt that exactly the point? If it werent controversial, we wouldnt need to do it. At some point we have to ask ourselves: What do we stand for? Whose side are you on?
Cohen spoke the names of Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, John Crawford and Michael Brown, all unarmed black men and children killed by police officers. He also ran a clip of Cleveland Browns wide receiver Andrew Hawkins responding to criticism he received for wearing a shirt on the field calling for justice for Tamir and Crawford.

This post comes to you from two or three miles away from Levi's Stadium. We can't stand your Seahorses! (An FB friend was discussing Deflate-gate with a friend of hers who knows so little about football she actually thought the name of the other team was the Seahorses! )
