(26,117 posts)sometimes it's nice to introduce a story to the next generation of viewers.
My kids (12 & 14) love the original Ghostbusters, but most of their friends (especially those with younger parents) have never seen it.

(12,723 posts)Teach them that just because something was made before they were born it is not useless and it IS possible to do comedy without fat and fart jokes.

(26,117 posts)My daughter did turn the neighbor girl on to "The Dick Van Dyke Show," much to her mother's chagrin. (And that show was made before *I* was born)

(9,527 posts)I really like the original.
I do think there's potential in Melissa McCarthy, but I think she's been given bad roles as a star. She was great in Gilmore Girls, but that was where she wasn't entirely zany (or at least zany in a different fashion than in her movie roles) and had a side to her character that resonated with me. But her movie roles haven't had that.
The others I don't know much about.
I get why Hollywood goes after known properties, but it does result in a lot of overly familiar crap being put out. If Michael Bay never touches another piece of my childhood, that would be just fine. In fact, if Michael Bay were to never direct another movie, that would be just fine too.

(20,166 posts)I actually like the new Planet of the Apes and Star Trek movies, but, honestly, I'd prefer seeing more groundbreakingly new movies.
