Poll: Should Texting In Movie Theaters Be Allowed?

Poll: Should Texting In Movie Theaters Be Allowed?

At CinemaCon in Las Vegas this past weekend, the assorted executives discussed how it might be beneficial to allow texting during the film because it would get more people in the seats who might have previously felt alienated. Especially young people who are so used to being plugged in and always accessible and who might feel actual anxiety at not being allowed to look at their phones for two hours.

-----------------------------

This all came about because the Sony CEO kicked said that twenty years ago, “kids would come every week,” but now “I’m concerned that the moviegoing experience isn’t just for baby boomers.” Seriously? An institution over 100 years old would bow to the latest generation simply because the latter has been given enough leniency to think they can get away with being rude? The act itself is self-involved: You’re completely disregarding the comfort of your fellow moviegoers who paid just as much as you to see this movie, in favor of something that is most likely a trivial and not pressing matter.

This was During the movie.

During.

I walked over and politely asked her to stop.

She looked annoyed at me and said, 'I'm ON THE PHONE.' (her emphasis)

I got the theater manager to throw her out.

Our theater visits went down substantially after that.

When the trailers are over, stop interacting with your phone.

Period.

I blame VCRs and DVDs. People think the theater is their damn living room.

  • don't have to stand in line
  • don't have to sit through half an hour or more of previews
  • more comfortable seats
  • better and cheaper snacks plus booze
  • can pause at any point to visit the bathroom or get a snack
  • can rewind in case you miss something

All performance spaces should be built with complete radio shielding. It's not that expensive, and as well as stopping cell and text, it stops other outside signals from interfering with onstage wireless systems. A net gain all around.

67. If you feel anxiety at not being allowed to look at your phone for two whole hours
Thu Apr 26, 2012, 10:47 PM
Apr 2012

you probably have other issues in your life, like perhaps a sick family member, unstable home life, friends with their own problems etc. Not to leave out the obvious that you yourself have problems that you can't be 'disconnected'. Which really is stupid because no one really cares if you look at your stupid phone for a minute provided you aren't screaming into it like a turd or have the brightness so high it acts like a flashlight as you hold it over your head so it bugs other people.

If you show the least bit of concern and intelligence you can check your phone that needs to be on all the time because you are so important or needed no one in your life can survive without you for a few hours. You can do that and not be obnoxious to other patrons provided they aren't super sensitive to actually seeing someone hunched over their phone for a minute texting quietly.

Now constantly texting with stupid sounds for sending and receiving texts that is something that shouldn't be allowed and is rude.
