"A Sound Bite Factory For Fox News": Senator Highlights Right-Wing Witnesses At Lynch Nomination Hearing

Senator Whitehouse's dismantling of the Fox/GOP cult is magnificent, using plain logic and common sense, to expose the Gallery of Fox Fools Republicans called in to compete for Fox airtime. Exposing what it was - a competition for approval from Roger Ailes, all nominated for Best Sound Bite in the coveted Fox Media Propaganda category.

(15,189 posts)We don't need to go backwards 30 years with her. I hope they don't confirm her.

(21,475 posts)If the Law gets changed she will adapt. I don't think she will allow any more prosecutions than her predecessor, and probably far fewer..

(8,230 posts)From what I've read so far she's said she doesn't support it, which means she's either neutral (no strong opinion either way, willing to let state laws & the courts guide enforcement policies), or she's opposed.
I believe she's neutral & she's choosing her words very carefully so she doesn't give Repubs a reason to fight her nomination. If she were really opposed to legalization I think she would come out & say it. Saying "I don't support it" leaves open the option of being neutral, respecting state's rights, & NOT pushing drug policies back 30 years.
If I'm wrong on this & she's actually said "I oppose it" then someone please let me know & I'll stand corrected.

(727 posts)During her hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) asked, "Do you support the legalization of marijuana?"
"Senator, I do not," Lynch replied.

(28,515 posts)What matters is the law on the books and right now its not legal but if and when the law changes as long as she or whoever is holding the office at the time follows the law thats all that matters imo.

(23,946 posts)It is like watching and listening to a Meatloaf song.
I noticed the paid shill from some RW voter fraud fraud group was the last of the hapless victims of Whitehouse's verbal surgery. She was the first to wake up to the fact Whitehouse was just preparing the battlefield with his soothing talk, just cementing the Gallery of Fools positions individually, but he shut her down quickly, resuming her gum chewing I noticed.
All done in preparation for oral salvo after salvo hurled upon the unsuspecting Fox shills, who only then became aware of how they had all been exposed, by their own words turned against them.
A lesson in cross-examination skills.

(25,111 posts)it needs to be more people saying what exactly they are. Obviously corporate media is not gonna do it. Politicians need to do it followed by TRUE journalists.

(484 posts)It illustrates how special interests will try to co-opt the process to suit their needs. Sen Whitehouse's comment sticks a fork in these asshats to see if they are done.

(6,956 posts)Brilliant and one of the few Washington politicians that gives me hope not all is lost.
It may come in my lifetime that marijuana prohibition and the prison industrial complex is regarded in the national consciousness in the same place we all put the Salem Witch Trials. A gross injustice a civil and informed society would not allow.
