(802 posts)Walter Cronkite back in the days of media integrity especially reporting the news, sometime in his broadcast nearly always included: "congress today passed (insert bill here, what is is, what it does)"
2015: unknown if there is much of a peep about H.R. 30 --- Another one of these repubican "dirty" bills with a decieving title "Save American Worker's act of 2015" is the 40 hr/per week threshold bill exempting employers from providing any health coverage if they just schedule their employees for 39. Just a handful of house democrats passed this turd.

(291 posts)I call it fluff TV. Just a great big pile of marshmallow fluff, that's not food and GMA is not news.

(87 posts)I hate to admit this but I have completely given up on television news. Its either shiny objects or in the case of Fox, misleading propaganda. Trumped up drama, unreliable experts, basically uniformed people giving useless second by second commentary on things they cannot comprehend. The standards for excellence in journalism are pretty well hidden these days. And television is just not a medium for the real story. It depends too much on corporate advertising. So really as a people we are dependent on sites like this, on informing one another where to look for, where to find the truth. And for those of us who work for a living, spending 50-60 hours at it, there's not a whole lot of time to search.

(19,288 posts)All of us were at a cabin and the Bill Cosby business came up. One of my friends had no clue he had been in the news. She said she doesn't like the fear mongering and lies so she doesn't listen to or watch any news.
She operates on the philosophy that if rises to a level of great enough importance, someone will tell her.
I was and still am completely amazed.

(12,882 posts)They have NO IDEA of what government is SUPPOSED to do - and what it actually does or doesn't do - and don't WANT TO KNOW! It'd be REAL easy for me to dismiss their head-in-the-sand approach and surmise that they deserve whatever it brings them. Sadly tho - what they get for their ignorance, I get shafted with too.

(19,288 posts)I still think we are propagandized from all the news sources and that Faux actuality pulls the whole works to the right.
I just try to decipher the truth out of the mix with out becoming any more of a conspiracy theorist. I want to maintain at least marginal credibility despite my crazy world views.

(87 posts)We all get swept up in whatever flavor the news is promoting. Bill Cosby is a bad guy. Bill Cosby molests women. Bill Cosby's numbers are now up to 35 and trending. Honestly I don't care so much. I don't know the whole story and i never will from television news. I may find an excellent article a few years from now about the allegations and the media response. I don't want television news to inform me the way they do. If we are all joined consciously by the content of television news we are in serious trouble. There are a ridiculous number of stories in the world. I think we need to reorient ourselves and what we do with our time. Sitting in front of the television getting angry is a waste of time.
