Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsRather than comply with gay marriage law, our Probate judge stops all marriages.
Our weekly town rag tells us the Probate Judge is threatening to quit performing all marriages, rather than be faced with carrying out gay marriages.
It was worded in a round about way, but the meaning is crystal clear.
Of course church marriages are still available, but that leaves each church to make up its own reasons for not including gay marriages.
See, that is why we cannot have nice things here.
Ala. is predominately rural, with hundreds of small towns.
So rather than carry out the law to allow everyone into the movies, they closed down the theater.
Same with swimming pools.
In bigger places, like Mobile, Montgomery, Birmingham, Huntsville and the Dothan area, they built city pools in a white area park and a black area park.
The message was clear.
I can hear the backlash against the marriage thing now...
" See? We TOLD you that gay marriages would ruin straight marriages".

(2,679 posts)The irony of the whole issue is that what these people that are vehemently imposing on everyone is not what they themselves do. I believe its called hypocrisy.
How many of those "before God marriages" end in divorce, annulment, or just good old infidelity? Crazy ain't it?

(21,475 posts)Anyone can perform a marriage pretty much but only the state can issue licenses. A lawsuit will soon be forthcoming if the state denies marriage licenses to everyone that applies.

but he did not argue against licenses themselves.
He clearly is going on record as objecting to any pool halls in River City....
Folks down here are STILL pissed they lost the vote to keep the country dry.
