Chuck Todd Lets Paul Ryan Lie About President Obama’s Economic Record On Meet The Press

Chuck Todd Lets Paul Ryan Lie About President Obama’s Economic Record On Meet The Press
By: Jason Easley
Sunday, February, 1st, 2015, 12:54 pm

Chuck Todd allowed Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) to lie and distort the president’s economic record without even the slightest push back on Meet The Press.

Video @ link~

Ryan completely distorted the president’s tax plan, “So what I think the president is trying to do here is again exploit envy economics. This top-down redistribution doesn’t work. We’ve known it for six years. Look, it may make for good politics, but it doesn’t make for good economic growth.”

What did Chuck Todd do when confronted with a series of obvious lies, and a rewriting of recent history? He moved on to his next question as if Paul Ryan had spoken the gospel truth.

One chart blows Ryan’s claim that raising taxes on the wealthy while lowering taxes on everyone else doesn’t work:

The chart above comes from a study conducted by Princeton economists Alan Blinder and Mark Watson that found that the U.S. economy grows faster under Democratic presidents, “The U.S. economy has grown faster–and scored higher on many other macroeconomic metrics–when the President of the United States is a Democrat rather than a Republican. For many measures, including real GDP growth (on which we concentrate), the performance gap is both large and statistically significant, despite the fact that postwar history includes only 16 complete presidential terms.”

snip//

Paul Ryan told several lies that would have been easy for Todd to push him on with a follow-up question, but the Meet The Press host chose to do nothing. It is tough to take any “public affairs” program seriously that makes facts optional. To his credit, Chuck Todd has been open about why he feels like he has to let Republicans lie on his show. Todd has argued that if he doesn’t allow Republicans to lie, they won’t come on his show anymore. Todd is right. If he started calling out lies, Republicans would abandon his program, but he does have a responsibility to not let blatant untruths go unchallenged.

Paul Ryan’s economic policies don’t work. The only way Ryan can justify his policies is to lie. It is up those who interview Ryan to correct basic facts. This interview was a perfect example of why many Americans no longer trust the media.

If all Ryan is going to do is tell big lies, what is the point of giving him air time in the first place?

If Todd is going to give Ryan a pass on his big lies, and accuse the President of the United States of not using a particular word after he used if several times, what is the point of giving him any air time at all?

Chuck Todd Defends Not Challenging Republican Lies On Meet The Press

Chuck Todd explained that the mainstream media has sold out facts for access. Todd said that he allows guests to lie on Meet The Press, because if he didn’t, politicians (Republicans) would refuse to be on his show.
...
The Meet The Press host said, “We all sit there, because we all know, the first time we bark is the last time that they do the show. You say something, and sometimes it is last time they will ever come on your show. There is that balance.”

Perhaps what can be read between the lines is that lying is OKIYAR, which is another reason no air time should be given to Mr. Todd, unless he wants to exile himself to FoxNews.

if they're just going to invite political hacks and then sit back and allow them free airtime to recite a prepared stump speech in a commercial format. That's not "The Press", so stop pretending that any form of journalism is going on. Just get rid of Todd and hire some scantily clad blond bimbo to walk across the set carrying a introductory placard like on pro-rasslin TV.

Members of the M$M apparently don't give a rat's patoot about journalism or even being citizens. They sit back, let the Koch Bros. owned politicians spout lies and damned lies, and collect their fat paychecks.

They apparently believe the fat paychecks protect them from all the damage that is occurring all around them.

You really let this pass:

So what I think the president is trying to do here is again exploit envy economics. This top-down redistribution doesn’t work. We’ve known it for six years. Look, it may make for good politics, but it doesn’t make for good economic growth.”

Really?

The next Democratic guest should have said, "Chuck ... I know you invited me to talk about deflate-gate, and similar inane topics; but I heard the Ryan segment and WOW! What was the DOW at 6 years ago? ... What was the Unemployment rate 6 years ago? ... What was the private sector job creation rate 6 years ago? Name a single economic metric that has not improved from 6 years ago! And you let all that go, unchallenged? I mean, WOW!"

Of course that Democrat would never see MTP again; but, why would anyone, that valued their credibility, want to?

and Chuck Toad promotes them all by failing to call them what they are. Trickle down doesn't work, cutting taxes doesn't work, yet that's all the Repugs have. They endlessly repeat the same lies, no matter what the situation, there is one answer - cut taxes on the rich, cut taxes on the wealthiest businesses, all war all the time. Economy doing great - cut taxes, economy sucks - cut taxes - job makers are really job cutters in this day and time - yet we are supposed to give them ever more money and the working stiff gets ever less money and the reason for no growth is they didn't give the rich enough and didn't cut enough from the working class. Yet every place this is tried, the economy falters. WI, FL, OH, and the poster child KS - all have very weak-very weak recoveries and are running higher deficits than states like CA, CT, and DE where wages were raised and health care vastly expanded.

Eisenhower said that the RICH and War Profiteers needed to help pay down the National Debt. The upper income bracket for the rich was 91%.
Kennedy later lowered the rate to 71% after the War Debt was paid off.

Lets try that again!

Poor people aren't the ones with a humble problem, all they care about is getting the resources they need to...you know...SURVIVE. Calling it envy is adding insult to injury.

Rich people on the other hand need to make more than what provides them with the maximum level of comfort just so they can feel better than everyone else..all at the expense of the poor not getting the resources they need.

The only group who thinks the economy is a pride competition are the ones who are prideful of their wealth and deluded to the real struggles of the poor. Everyone else is concerned with survival.

And 6 years of a failed economy? Paul Ryan doesn't realize we're still living under Reaganomics. It's a miracle how well the economy is doing under Obama given that we are still suffering under the weight of a conservative economic structure. We need real leftest policies to make the economy strong again, and to do that we need a progressive congress; not just a good president.
