Like these players don't make enough money they are given a free $50K automobile as well. But I guess thats ok they "earned" it.

(45,274 posts)I don't consider them to be a part of the real "problem-rich."
Most ball players aren't funding nutjob politicians or destroying lives to make a profit.
Think of them as the "working-rich," along with heart surgeons, media stars, and others whose only "product" is not just the manipulation of money, people & other "assets" for profit.
The working rich are millionaires, and multi-millionaires in some cases. But they aren't billionaires. They are as liable as anyone to lose their retirements in a stock market crash. While they're eatin' purdy high on the hawg, for the most part they aren't the real driving force behind the Pikettyization of the Western world.

(50,130 posts)Brady didn't play that well, did he?
onenote
(46,135 posts)Yes he had two interceptions, but his completion rate of 74 percent of the 50 passes he threw probably is the fourth or fifth highest overall. And he did it against the top rated defense in the NFL.
So in what universe would that be considered not playing "that well."

(46,135 posts)And he still managed to complete 74 percent of his passes, set a new Super Bowl record for completions in a game, and throw four touchdowns against the number one rated pass defense in the NFL -- a team that only gave up 17 passing touchdowns all season.
I'd say that was a pretty good performance.

(24,853 posts)and STILL be MVP. It boils down to "did you win?" and "who contributed the most?". Column D below lacks an asterisk.

(22,340 posts)Seems kind of unfair to call that whining. I haven't seen anything from him in that regard.
sharp_stick
(14,400 posts)actually I don't expect him to whine, that's not his style. I think the look on his face is more leading to anger at the play call.
The reaction shot was just a little dig at the poster that I called the whambulance for.
Goblinmonger
(22,340 posts)I see what you did now.
I'm not really a Seahawks fan and there is plenty to not like on that team, but I generally like Sherman because it's not his style to whine about things. And that is such a solid, real, human reaction.

(22,340 posts)but a throw to the middle? That seems odd.
And you have Marshawn Fuckin Lynch and probably 3 play. At least give Beast Mode a try or two at getting it in the end zone before you go all desperation.

(46,135 posts)The pass play, viewed through hindsight, was a lousy call. But if it had worked -- and it could have worked -- it would be lauded by Seattle fans as an act of genius, as another example of Carroll's bold play calling. But it didn't work because Butler made a great play on the ball and held on. If he only knocks it away, as happens more often than interceptions, the Seahawks have another chance or two to score.
People seem to forget that there are a lot of variables in football. A lot of things could have gone differently. The Seahawks could've run the ball and gotten stuffed or fumbled before scoring. It happens. They couldn've completed the pass. Butler could have just knocked the ball down.
What happened is what happened, just as the miraculous catch on the five happened although no one would have predicted it. Just as Lynch being stuffed for no gain on third and one inside the 10 yard lineforced the Seahawks to go for a field goal. The bottom line is the line on the scoreboard: The number one Seahawks defense couldn't stop Brady from throwing four touchdown passes and accumulating over 300 yards passing (considerably more than the 185 yards per game passing the Seahawks allowed for the season). They couldn't stop Brady from completing 74 percent of his passes -- more than Brady's season average of 64 percent. Th
A lot of plays led to the outcome of that game, not just the interception.

(78,249 posts)But who else gets it, assuming it has to be someone on the Pats? Butler, for the one pick? Remember, he had just been torched by Kearse for the bizarro catch that got them down there in the first place.
Of course, it didn't have to be someone on the Pats. One player from the losing team has gotten it, way back in SB V. Wouldn't it have been cool to see Marshawn Lynch with three brazillion mikes shoved in his face?

(18,359 posts)Brooks Robinson was a vacuum cleaner on every play to third base.
Total Baseball described Brooks Robinson's fielding with, "other-worldly defense at third (which) gave Reds right-handed hitters nightmares through the Series." Upon hearing that Robinson won the MVP award and a new car from Toyota, Reds' catcher Johnny Bench said, "If we had known he wanted a car that badly, we'd all have chipped in and bought him one."

If someone determined they will get enough advertisement out of giving him the automobile, he accomplished what was necessary to be a part of that, then he has put himself in a position to where he earned it. If it wasn't him, it would have been someone else.
