Ronald Reagan gave speech after speech about how we should hate Russians/USSR/ commies. etc.
I see the same exact right wing shit cheering on hatred of Russia/socialism/labor, etc right here.
Very sad and telling.

(24,692 posts)I would not equate concern for Russia's homophobia, authoritarianism, aggression and militarism with support for labor and socialism.

You just can't live up to other peoples' standards.

(721 posts)Im sure you will forget and neglect to answer that, and focus on hating Russia.
Just as my OP stated. Continue to post on how we should all hate Russia and post propaganda just like Ronald Reagan.
We should hate Russia and Putin and ignore the evil in America. As long as Russia is hated.
Hate Russia, Russia is evil, Russia is the Devil,
Please continue with CIA propaganda

(11,804 posts)to ignore the malice and harm done by that system. If they failed to sufficiently toe the Russian line, they would be discredited and thrown out of the party (as happened a few times with the American communist party). Sad, as Russian communists didn't actually give a damn about building an international Communist movement, and instead only worried about their own survival.
But I suppose we are well past people mindlessly defending Russia in favor of attacking the US.

There were a bunch of splinter groups, which had devolved into cults of personality. None of them at the time were the puppets of the USSR. The Reds I came in contact with at the time were not all that interested in ideological purity, and instead were happy to work with non-communists on common projects, such as Central America.
Russia hasn't been very popular with the American Left for a long, long time. You must be thinking of the Party half a century earlier which could afford to be pure and picky.

(36,418 posts)I think the response at DU against the New Cold War jingoism is more an expression of traditional anti-war and anti-militarism than an embrace of Putin.
There is a difference in that distinction.

(11,804 posts)That said the OP does fairly explicitly suggest that those who are not keen on Putin are buying into CIA propaganda and falling back into a cold war mentality.

(36,418 posts)One does not have to embrace Putin to reject CIA propaganda and resist falling back in a Cold War mentality.

Russia is an imperialistic, culturally backwards and bigoted country ruled by a rightwing gangster oligarchy. It is militaristic, fascist, homophobic, expansionist.
None of that is worth defending.
If one criticizes what Reagan and Bush did, if one has any principles that person will also condemn Putin.

(9,116 posts)Because it sounds like your prescription is in need of an update.
I would recommend the ideology-filtering lenses. The world is a remarkably different place when see things how they are rather than how you would prefer them to be.
For example: this pro-labor, pro-socialist Russia you describe looks instead like a gangster-ridden oligarchy run a "President" with near limitless power and designs to maintain the old Soviet Union's spheres of influence in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. What a drastic shift, indeed!
I mean, did you even consider the lack of liberal love Russia receives might have something to do with it being an incredibly illiberal nation?

(20,582 posts)The bigotry against a whole people and ramping up the insults, the hatred, the rah-rahing for their economic destruction - little children, those already suffering in an economy that's hurting people all over the world, an entire nation of people - it's actually quite sick.
Brings to mind - "we think the price is worth it."
