Gotta share my good news or I’ll bust! I’m getting married Saturday!

I had to tell someone or I was going to burst! After 8 years of togetherness, 7 living together (all our neighbors already assume we’re married anyway, maybe cuz we’re old farts) my wonderful boyfriend and I will go to the judge and get hitched on Valentine’s Day! This is the third time for me, 1st for Mr. Dorkzilla. He’s notoriously shy and didn’t want ANY attention at all so we’re not telling anyone besides my parents (his have passed away) and my oldest friend (who will be my witness) until after the fact. My dad is serving as his witness.

I got a cute dress off the rack and have a spangly little headband. He’ll wear whatever he wants. Then we’re off to spend a few nights with the west coast parents and off to Hawaii for a convention which will double as a honeymoon. We were taking the trip anyway.

My heart is so full of love!

And the mazel tov is very appropriate - it was my step-grandma who put the Jewish guilt on him last summer; she broke a hip and was in a nursing home and we went to visit her. Apparently at some point when myself and my step-dad went off to the loo she glared at him and said “DON’T YOU THINK IT’S ABOUT TIME???”. She passed away in November so sadly she won’t be there but her particular brand of Bubbe guilt even worked on an Irish guy!

One of the “icing on the cake” moments came just a few days ago when we were out do dinner with my mom, stepdad and some family friends who are getting married this spring. They started asking us when we were going to do it finally and the conversation turned to comfort in our dotage. Being able to take care of each other and speak for each other in case of infirmity is important. My uncle just came out of a horrible coma, and he just married for the 3rd time a few years ago himself. Thank god his wife was able to speak for him when he couldn’t. Things like this didn’t even occur to me in my first marriage.
