(39,376 posts)How dare you suggest that they should allow everyone to peacefully share the planet. To suggest that they not persecute other religions is a violation of their religious liberty....if you listen to them closely enough.
I don't see my "Hayduke Lives" bumper sticker anywhere there.

(4,199 posts)Years ago, I was calling to get car insurance for my wife's used bottom-of-the-line Ford Escort. Went through all the standard questions (does it have airbags, antilock brakes, ...) when we get to the question of whether it had an anti-theft device. I replied "well, it's a Ford Escort covered in left-wing bumper stickers..." followed by an awkward pause. I dunno -- I thought it was funny.

(7,864 posts)I would have laughed.
I used to have the best car for merging in traffic: a rusty Cavalier with a huge sideswipe driver's side from the door to the bumper. Everybody backed off when they saw me coming down the onramp.
All the bumper stickers are great!

(19,326 posts)and I wondered why I was getting pulled over (mostly for no reason) by cops ... then when that car died, my
next car was a very plain grey with no stickers .. all of a sudden I felt like Frodo having just put on the ring
in-fucking-visible as hell. no more tickets now. paranoid delusion? maybe, but i don't think so.

(58,283 posts)If they see liberal stickers they get pissed off. They also think they will find pot if they pull you over.

(90,021 posts)until my car got keyed and I lent my car to my daughter and she called while she was out - to tell me one of the tires had been slashed. Because we were sharing a car is the only reason I took my stickers out. They'd been inside in the rear window. I didn't want them vandalized. If I'd been the only one driving, I'd have left them in place. I rather liked driving around and showing my defiance during the bush/cheney era. But if she was gonna be using my car, I didn't want anything to happen to her.
There was one time, though, when I was alone at the wheel. I'll never forget the angry middle-aged white guy driving the white pickup truck - who came up alongside me on the freeway, and stayed there for a few miles, trying to get my attention. You get this sense of an object pacing you in your peripheral vision if it goes on steadily for a few minutes. I glanced over at one point and saw his face. Total anger and outrage and rude gestures. Pointing toward the rear - where my bumper stickers were. I had "Dean for America," "War is Not the Answer," and "bush KNEW." He was mouthing something that I didn't care to try to decipher. After all, we were driving! at freeway speeds! (I mean - shouldn't we both have been keeping our eyes on the road ahead of us? Sheesh!) He seemed rather hellbent on making sure I was aware of his disapproval. I reached the point where I thought maybe I should try to figure out how to lose this guy in the traffic flow, but by then we'd come to a fork in the road, and there he went - lurching off, abruptly, in the other direction at the last minute. I was glad he needed to use the OTHER freeway than the one on which I was continuing.
