1 in 5 Kids Use Food Stamps, Setting a U.S. Record

http://www.equalvoiceforfamilies.org/1-in-5-kids-use-food-stamps-setting-a-u-s-record/

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sixteen million children were on food stamps as of last year, the highest number since the nation’s economy tumbled in 2008.

Numbers released by the Census Bureau Wednesday as part of its annual look at children and families show that one in five children were on food stamp assistance in 2014. The survey was taken last spring.

The number of people receiving food stamps — now called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP — spiked through the recession and has stayed at a higher level since. In the 2007 Census survey, 9 million children received SNAP assistance.

actually its 800 million cut EVERY YEAR, adding up to 8.7 BILLION dollars. Disabled, children, minorities will have less to eat every day because of this cut. Food is literally being pulled away from millions of hungry US citizens daily because of these cuts. Disgusting.

Stunted development, going to bed hungry more nights a month. Add to that processed garbage they feed kids these days in public schools, and it will become an epidemic. Wait until you see the upcoming shitstorm that will happen when SSDI cuts will happen, affecting the disabled in the US. More "bipartisan" cuts will be happening in the near future if Hillary is annointed.

Machines legally cant be audited because of "proprietary software". We know for a fact owned by companies run by right wing teabaggers. I highly doubt republicans get even a tenth of the vote if it werent for electronic voting.

Paper ballots, handcounted, in front of cameras. Its how its done in most other civilized countries.

Also consider that more than half the population knows the game is rigged and dont bother to vote in the first place.

I took a sick day from work. I was too far away to vote on my lunch break and I worked such long hours the polls were closed when I got home (and, of course, I had to leave for work before the polls opened). I think they now have absentee ballots in my state but I think you have to jump through hoops to get them, and there's only one day (a weekday) to vote in my state.

Fri Feb 13, 2015, 05:25 PM

This is where cutting food stamps makes no sense to me.

If our government is so confident of an "economic recovery" then people should be disqualifying themselves from food stamps by GETTING JOBS THAT PAY ENOUGH TO PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE.

Congress authorize a Gazillion dollars in food stamps, and the taxpayers wouldn't be on the hook for a dime, if NO ONE QUALIFIED FOR THEM.

The solution is to make sure that everyone who wants a job that covers their food and housing GETS a job that pays for their food and housing. It's THAT SIMPLE!

The need for food stamps is exposing the inadequacy behind the rah-rah job recovery, where too many people were herded into temp and seasonal work to get numbers up. I just went to a Dept of Rehab job event that included Multilevel Marketing companies!!! I kid you not!

The answer is to put people in a position where they don't need food stamps.

Pensions are being dismantled across the country, jobs are being downsized and outsourced, and the ones that replace them are much lower wage, often part time. And no benefits. Its no surprise that tens of millions of Americans qualify for food stamps.

The real tragedy is all of the children who have done nothing at all to live in such disgrace and poverty.
