They are into profits, and laughing that this movie made so much money.

(4,742 posts)Like all things for the right wing...it will be a political conspiracy from Hollywood that would make it that AS didn't win an Oscar.

(5,633 posts)It's just another war movie, among a pretty popular genre.
And I don't think the cons care too much about Hollywood.

(743 posts)You have to get past it to type in your comment, anyway. You might as well actually read it. It would literally take the same amount of time to read it. I posted it here to be read.

I couldn't stand Theory of Everything. Barely got through it. I thought Eddie Redmayne's performance was annoying. I almost turned it off a few times (saw it at home).

(11,804 posts)The best pictures would be nominated based on box office gross, and the winner would be determined by whoever won the most. I mean really that's what we are measuring right? If most Americans liked a movie that means it's the best movie. By definition.

(72,790 posts)I thought it was good, but not great. I think there are several other movies more deserving. I saw 7 of the 8 Best Picture nominees, and quite a few others deserving that weren't nominated for BP.

(743 posts)There is a hint as to what I'm really talking about in every paragraph after the first one. I am going to just put all of those hints right here now. I don't think it will do any good. I really don't. But I feel like I have to try. I am now going to destroy the piece in order to save it. That's where we are...
"They'll feel like their opinions don't count for anything. Like people from some completely alien culture just swept in and stole their voice. Took their autonomy away."
"...and if someone from a part of the world they've never visited just comes over and tell them those values are wrong... well, no one likes that. Everyone gets angry when that happens."
"But then these arrogant and rich jerks, folks who claimed they were from an advanced culture, even though you knew they were just entitled pricks... these insufferable people started ordering everyone around and trying to lecture you about right and wrong in your own home? God, just thinking about it ought to make you enraged. Who do they think they are, right?"
AND THE LAST THREE PARAGRAPHS OF THE PIECE ARE JUST NOTHING BUT A FLAT-OUT OBVIOUS INDICATOR OF WHAT I'M REALLY TALKING ABOUT.
There isn't a single person who likes it when some - let's admit this - some foreigner barges onto the scene, tears up their world, and starts acting like they own the place. People who do that are universally hated.
That's about the absolute stupidest, most jackass way to behave. Anyone who does it is asking to get hurt. Badly.
No one ought to understand this better than the kind of folks who go in for American Sniper.
BOOM. RE-READ THAT LAST LINE. NO, NO... REALLY READ IT.

(743 posts)I'm okay with cats. Depends on the cat, really.
But I wouldn't like cats if some foreign army patrolled my city, shot my neighbors, and told me they were doing it for my own good, because I didn't like cats ENOUGH. And then after they destroyed my culture, they made a war movie about some guy who'd shot more of my neighbors than anyone, and the movie was all about how shooting my neighbors made him feel, and then people in that country were mad because the movie didn't win an Oscar, like that was the greatest injustice that had ever happened.
No. I wouldn't like cats under those circumstances.

The white whale represents implacable nature.
The animals on the farm are all different members of Soviet society.
The bad guy is always the first person the Scooby gang sees at the haunted place. It's always just that guy. There are usually NO OTHER PEOPLE in the cartoon.

(47,245 posts)First off, it was created as a union-busting scheme.
Second, they gave "Best Picture" award to "Rocky," over "Network."
"Rocky" was nothing but tired clichés.
"Network" was a quality movie with damn good actors.
