Did Obama allow ISIS to happen by not supplying shadowy Syrian rebels with advanced weapons?

(17,997 posts)Glenn Snowald in with the hero that is Hillary. I mean look at her initials! HRC. Even her initials show how dedicated she is making love, not war.
I would have voted I stand with HRC but I have seen Snowald eat kittens. And I don't understand how he was ever let back into this country, if even just for a moment.

(20,709 posts)What I would like to see (obviously, not going to happen on DU) would be an intelligent discussion of what could have been done, what can be done, and what if anything should be done to improve the situation in the Middle East, much of which is the result of Bush's Iraq War. And some appreciation of the complexities, rather than just assertions that Clinton and Obama are evil warmongering imperialists.

(17,997 posts)We could easily have that discussion. We should have that discussion. Though I don't know about the should have. Can't go back and change the past.
I don't know that we can have the discussion if the post says something like, "Hillary will do this" or "won't do that." But if you post your ideas and what you want to discuss, it can be done.
The one thing that I am sick of is going to posts to call people down. There's a big difference between discussing facts and just saying things like, "you're more aligned with Romney" because someone disagrees with Hillary.
DanTex
(20,709 posts)I mean, it's not like the reason that Hillary favored arming the rebels was because she likes wars, or wants to be Alexander the Great. And Obama actually considered doing it (IIRC), but opted not to, or maybe at most in a very limited capacity. "Yay, more weapons!" is not really a description of the options. It was more like, do we let horrible things happen, with the potential of spreading instability, or do we work with questionable allies in an attempt to control the chaos and improve the situation, at risk of making it worse.
There's also the argument that we just shouldn't be involved militarily with what goes on elsewhere in the world, but even that fails, for example in Rwanda, where doing just that is considered one of the great failings of the Clinton administration.
marym625
(17,997 posts)Absolutely. It's in response to a bunch of pro-hillary comments elsewhere today.
That doesn't mean it can't be done. I believe it can be. It just has to be a post about the subject and not the person.
Yes,; we should have gone into Rwanda.

(721 posts)So, I am searching for a way to be constructive about a politician who voted for an illegal war that killed over a million people. Do you have any good ideas on how to "constructively criticize" that?
And has aligned herself with the author of the End Game Memo.
Uhm. She oughten to have done that. How's that?

Just the sight of me would skeeve her out, she would likely bath in purell and flee soap if she got that close to one so far below her station.

I'd probably make a significant contribution at a fundraiser where you get a met and greet first so you can use it as an icebreaker when you see her out and about in regular social situations.
