Walker raises 13x money of nearest Dem: has ~10x more cash on hand

as nearest dem. In perspective Walker's money raising appears to have been superior to Gingrich's and Santorum's money raising efforts for the presidency.

The rich from all across the country REALLY want Walker to fend off the recall.

Walker raises $13 million since January

Madison - Gov. Scott Walker raised an unprecedented $13.2 million over three months to fight off the recall bid against him, outdistancing his Democratic challengers and driving home the challenge they will have in beating the Republican incumbent.

Crisscrossing the country on fundraising trips, Walker has raised more than $25 million since January 2011 and has $4.9 million in cash on hand - numbers unlike any that have been seen for a political candidate in Wisconsin. Two-thirds of Walker's money came from out of state.

His stores of cash dwarf what his Democratic rivals have raised. But a report filed Monday showed an independent group supporting Democrat Kathleen Falk received $4.5 million, nearly all of it from unions and about a third of it from out of state.

Walker's fundraising is on par with that of second-tier presidential candidates. For instance, Rick Santorum raised $18.5 million between Jan. 1 and March 31, and Newt Gingrich raised a little less than $10 million during that period. <snip>

or that the rules for money-raising allow unlimited donations to the person being recalled.

The reality is that Walker is going to dominate the media across the next 5 weeks. I don't expect the actual persuasive value of that advertising to change many voters positions, which have seemed very steady over the past year.

What is likely about to happen is a carpet bombing of the media. The one-sided dominance of that campaign will be intended to discourage democratic turnout.

People get really sick of that shit, and it doesn't always work. Romney pulled that here in the SC GOP primaries, and still lost to Gingrich. The same happened in AL and MS, where he outspent Santorum 15 to 1, and Santorum still creamed him in both states. From everything I have been hearing and reading, Wisconsin Democrats are disgusted enough with Walker that all the ad carpet-bombing in the world won't make an iota of difference. I hope it turns out to be a HUGE waste of money--money that won't be spent on the November races.

I hope that Walker will soon learn the same lesson Meg Whitman, Carly Fiorina, and Linda McMahon learned: That one can pour millions of dollars, including fat chunks of their own fortunes, into a political race and still lose Most of Walker's money is coming from out of state, which tells me that the most of the people who are going to do the actual voting don't like him enough to send him money to help him save his job. Hopefully, they also show their displeasure on election day.

There's no way he can win in a fair election. Recall scheduled June 5th.

It's close, it's probably going to stay that way.

IMO its going to be about the side that gets out the vote.

I don't think there's much the R's can do to get their more tepid supporters out. The rabid will vote like a religious duty, for sure, but the rest will be, meh?

The Dems should be able to get the vote out, despite the Party's lack of organization.

There seems to be particular interest in challenging college-aged voters.

Wi Rep, Ed Brooks in an article published by Baraboo News Republic, pushed the idea that college students try to cheat the residency requirements

Madison Student Vote Coalition" is suggesting students register to vote at college addresses and use of absentee ballots for the special election--see flyer below.

Confusion is the enemy of voter turnout.

WiDems have good representation on most campuses, I hope that students get squared away on how they are going to approach voting in the special election.

It seems Walker has become the vanguard for the final victory of the 1%. Although I haven't seen any polls lately, there are "I stand with Walker" signs everywhere in Northeastern Wisconsin, and anti-Barrett commercials are on at least one station every minute 24 hours per day. From my reading of the Wisconsin voters, Barrett has a chance, but I would guess it is no longer 50/50.

At this time I really don't think it's a matter of changing anyone's mind. People in the state divided up over a year ago and haven't much budged on what they feel about Walker.

It's really about getting dem voters out to vote.
