2 jump from George Washington Bridge minutes apart, police say

Two people jumped from the George Washington Bridge within minutes of each other Wednesday, the Port Authority said.

One person jumped from the upper level while another plunged from the span's lower level, both around 4:20 p.m., according to Port Authority police.

The first person abandoned a car on the lower level and jumped, said police spokesman Joe Pentangelo, citing a preliminary report. The second person rode a bike onto the upper level and jumped over the railing.Investigators had witnesses to the apparently unrelated cases, Pentangelo said.Both bodies were recovered and taken to the 125th Street boat basin in Manhattan, the spokesman added.The New York City Office of Emergency Management warned of "extensive delays" in both directions on the bridge due to NYPD activity.
