Cops Make Parade Float Mocking a Woman for Being Raped By Her Father as a Child

The Baton Rouge police department has launched an internal investigation into the actions of officers who allegedly rode on and helped decorate a float that mocked a woman for being raped as a child; by her father.

The theme of the float was of the Baton Rouge reality show, “Sons of Guns.” It focused on the daughter of the former television star, Will Hayden. Hayden is currently facing sexual assault charges in East Baton Rouge and Livingston Parishes, after being accused of sexually assaulting his own daughter along with two other victims.

The float was “decorated” with a large photo of Stephanie Ford, the sexual assault victim, with the caption underneath her photo stating, “A face only a daddy could love.” Other sayings on the float consisted of things like, “Krewe of Sleazania,” “Red Jack It” and “Kiss Me Daddy.”

No words...

On edit I do have some words. Try to get your head around the mentality of the people who would even think of something like this. Then consider they not only thought of it, they decided it was a good idea, and then actually went out and did it. Then consider those are the same people who are sanctioned by the state to wield lethal force against the citizenry, and to do so who little oversight and even fewer consequences. We live in a very sick place.

Every single post on their FB page, calling them to the mat on this is getting deleted and the poster blocked. So their officers can have "free speech" rights without repercussions but let citizens exercise their free speech, they get silenced.

Let the BRPD what you think of their "officers of the law" flood the page. Let them know the whole country sees what they are. Keep those fuckers busy deleting comments and blocking posters, instead of shaming victims of child rape.

When they do these "internal investigations," they always find the actions of the bad cops acceptable. I mean, they are "investigating" themselves. Of course, they will never see any wrongdoing on their own part.

This is disgusting. It is going to be disgusting when they find no wrongdoing on the part of those who participated too, because that is what they will "find."

Sad thing is the float was probably in Baton Rouge's Mardi Gras parade, so allot of people seen it. Why did Baton Rouge let it in the parade? That's another question. I've been in community organizing of parades and I know that not every unit that shows up gets in line. This one should never have been allowed in.

The first crime is the rape itself, the second tier is the victim shaming that all too often happens. I will admit, a parade float takes shaming to a whole new level.
It warms my heart (or is that inflames my hemorrhoids?) to see the compassion our distinguished oath bound protectors of society in action.

We play out the judicial process as laymen at DU, but at times, one wonders what a person is really saying, you know?

LA's gone medieval on women, the real point of this OP. I've seen plenty of mockery of sexual assault victims by males, but these goons really showed their Id there.

Might as well, all the better to name names.

I wonder why some among us want to post comments like this one. Do you hope to start a flame war? Do you think that you are being funny? Intellectually superior?

The parade float is the issue here; do you not get that? POLICE OFFICERS decided it would be fun to derogate a survivor of childhood sexual assault! I can't even wrap my mind around this grotesque behavior!

Furthermore, when an adult gathers together the courage necessary to tell anyone that her FATHER raped her, she should not be ridiculed by the police, or by anyone in an online forum!

Shame on you!!!

The first changes would have to be at the top - the Police Chief, the Police Commission. But what about the politicians? The State of Louisiana depends on the tourist industry - especially New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Would tourists want to visit a place where the police held attitudes like this?

Attitudes could and would be changed, if the people got fed up enough to develop a strategy and follow through. This is actually true of America.

Remember - in America, effective strategies are those that hit the pockets of the 1%.

That can't happen unless the rules are understood by everyone.

I have two questions that the article appears not to address:

1. Where was this "displayed - some sort of parade, or something? ... organized by who, and for what purpose?
2. Who paid for this "float"? Was it the officers themselves, or did they have funding from the department?

She ought to sue them for slander. If any department funds were used - she should sue the whole department.

Fri Mar 6, 2015, 07:28 PM

The charges against him include two counts of aggravated rape and one count of forcible rape. If convicted of aggravated rape, he faces a mandatory life sentence.

Hayden is accused of raping two preteen girls, according to the Advocate. He is accused of raping a girl in East Baton Rouge beginning in March 2013, when she was 11 years old, until August 2014. Additionally, a woman, who is now in her 30s, also came forward claiming Hayden raped her in the 1990s when she was 12 years old, the Advocate reported. She told detectives she was staying with Hayden's family at the time of the alleged assault because her house had burned down.

In late August, Hayden was arrested as a fugitive and charged with aggravated rape. That marked the second time the Red Jacket Firearms founder was arrested that month. In early August, he was arrested on charges of child molestation and crimes against nature, but released on $150,000 bail. The victim told police at the time that "the alleged acts occurred almost daily, but [the victim] didn't report them because Hayden made threats," according to CBS affiliate WAFB.

The reality star's eldest daughter, Stephanie Hayden Ford, initially defended her father. However, in a September interview with Dr. Phil, she revealed her father had touched her inappropriately when she was 12 years old.

http://www.wafb.com/story/28191603/sons-of-guns-star-stephanie-hayden-ford-disgusted-with-parade-float-theme

A spokesman for the Baton Rouge Police Department, Don Coppola, identified three officers who were allegedly either on the float or helping to pull it. All three are Sergeants with BRPD. They have been identified as Douglas Atkins, Byron Fontenot, and Donald Young.

Young now works in Internal Affairs, but used to work in the department's sex crimes division.

The fucker used to work in sex crimes?!?!?!?!? This is the asshole that you had to go to and report a rape, never mind that with this attitude how he investigate fellow officers: "oh you smacked her around? Well she probably deserved it!"

It is well past the time for all officers to be mounted with body cams that they can't turn off and store all information at a secure, offsite location; civilian review/oversight boards for all departments; and a morality clause in every employment contract. I would also like to see annual physiological testing/reviews and free therapy for all officers who desire it, but those are probably too much to ask for.
