The GOP Open Letter to Iran: Write to your Senators

I am ashamed, and embarrassed, once again, to have two Republican Senators from North Carolina who care
more about their dislike of the President than they do about upholding the Constitution of the United States.

I just sent this e-mail to BOTH Senators Burr and Tillis:

I am writing to express my extreme disgust that you chose to sign the disgraceful Open Letter to Iran which disrespects the Office of the President. I refer you to an editorial which pretty well explains my position and ends with this sentence: "But the Republicans who dispatched this letter have done more than embarrass a president they dislike. They have also disgraced themselves and undermined the credibility of the nation whose constitution they took an oath to uphold."
http://www.freep.com/story/opinion/editorials/2015/03/09/iran-congress-leter/24670293/

I have known for a long time that you and your Republican scumbag buddies cannot get over the fact that this country voted--twice--to elect a black man as President of the United States. Get over yourselves. The world is changing. We need peace, not war. We need respect and tolerance for others, not hate and bigotry. And above all we do not need a bunch of condescending a$$hole Republicans attempting to undermine the Constitutional authority of the President of the United States.

The only good to come out of this letter is the recognition that at least seven Republicans care more for upholding the Constitution than aligning themselves with Tea Party traitors. It's a start.

I would encourage any and all of you represented by this gang of 47 to also write to them expressing your thoughts and also send letters to the editor of your local newspapers. I wish we could do what is done to shame dogs: make them all stand outside on the steps of the Capitol Building with signs hung around their necks saying "I'm an a$$hole. I have broken the oath of my office."

1. Done, I would suggest that

the vitriol be toned down and make the argument that this letter and its signatories has disgraced the country, the office of the president and the senate. If possible imply you voted for them.

4. They'll know from my address there's a 66% chance I didn't vote for them

since I live in one of the most liberal counties in NC.

Besides, I'm sick of these a$$holes and I'm taking off the gloves. They insult, denigrate, demean
the Office of POTUS as well as the man as often as they can. It's time they get a little of their own
back.

But, I hear you. What good has it done with any of these idiots?

10. I don't have a copy of it. Had to use the form on his website.

I did include the link to the editorial in your OP.

6. mine are both democrats - what di I send them?

how about a letter telling them to educate their fellow senators about the law? not that ignorance of a law is an excuse. they expect to be there forever do they, well 6 years is too much for most of them.

11. I don't know,

most of them are saying that they didn't think a letter was necessary, not that it is wrong, so they kow better but are chicken to criticize their own - not much better.

7. I hate to admit that Tom Cotton is one of my Senators. Here's the letter I sent to him:

Dear Senator Cotton:

I am at a loss for words regarding the letter you drafted, signed your name to and sent to the leaders of Iran in an effort to undermine the authority of President Obama in his negotiations with that country concerning their nuclear weapons capabilities. What in the world were you thinking?

When dealing with a foreign power that we believe is developing nuclear weapons, we need to present a united front. If there is disagreement between the branches of government, it would be much better to resolve it in a way that does not give our adversaries a wedge that they can use to weaken our position. Again, I have to ask you, what in the world were you thinking.

I cannot believe that you thought it would be in the best interests of our country to openly disrespect the office of President of the United States in a matter of this magnitude. What I do believe is that you have allowed your ego and the pressure from ill-informed constituents to influence you into making an ill advised move that could possibly put our nation, and many others, at risk.

I sincerely hope that my fellow Arkansans see through your cheap shot tactics and that your time in the Senate is limited to one term. You have not shown the leadership skills or the responsibility that one would expect of someone who holds this office. Hopefully, the next six years will not afford you the opportunity to repeat an action as shameful as this one.

I used his email contact form at his website. Snail mail can be held up to 3 weeks for security screening.

9. Good for you!

Nice letter. I do admit I did not hold back...but I'm so sick of these a$$holes.
And unfortunately, one of them, Tillis, is going to be there for six years, thanks to all the Koch/Pope
money injected into the Senate race here last year.

And yes, I used their websites to send e-mails.

you wrote:

He "responds" by condescendingly lecturing you about the danger of Iran getting weapons.

Above all, thanks for writing him and sharing his response!

12. And mine, wordsmithing yours

I am writing to express my disgust that you chose to sign the disgraceful Open Letter to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Did you skip civics class in high school?

That letter does more than just disrespect the Office of the President. When you dispatched that letter, you did so to embarrass the president. But in doing so, you have also disgraced yourself and undermined the credibility of our nation and the constitution you took an oath to uphold.

I am not a politician and perhaps that is why I cannot fathom what thought process you came to when signing your name to an Open Letter to an adversarial nation. You obviously don't take any subject matter seriously when you are at work. I'm sure we can expect more strange, unthoughtful, short-sighted, and disrespectful behavior from your pen in the years to come. Congratulations!
