The Telecommunications Act of 1996 was the first significant overhaul of United States telecommunications law in more than sixty years, amending the Communications Act of 1934. The main feature of the bill was cross ownership. A cursory reading would suggest it was a gift to right wing shills like Rupert Murdoch and Clear Channel Communications!! The problems it created were not unforeseen or unforeseeable.
