Interesting: Obama chooses May Day to go to Afghanistan

I don't know if anyone else has suggested this, but man that May Day coverage just went great yesterday...Oh no, wait, Obama went to Afghanistan, so instead of that coverage, we got more war coverage.

I hate to gripe too much about it, but seriously, does anyone think this wasn't planned? Maybe even last year, who knows, since they said it was on the anniversary of Bin Laden.

You say you want us, the Occupy people to make you pass legislation, then you schedule this event on the very day Occupy is trying to get a little publicity from a generally unwilling corporate media.

What do you think? Am I off base here?

I don't think it was to put down OWS..it was a smart move as well because he signed the Strategic Alliance with Afghanistan. I don't believe Obama decided that because it was May Day, he would do this.

It would have had to be conceived last year, since the claim was they did it on the anniversary of Osama's impromptu execution. And that worries me even more, since that would require some pretty intense planning, and forethought.

But I'm not convinced it wasn't a deliberate attempt to take press coverage off the protests, and I think we all know, it would not have gotten much anyway, but this made it even less significant.

Obama says "Make me do it," then he distracts from the protests intention of the publicity he needs to "make him do it."

Then there is the fact he's going to stay in Afghanistan until 2024--I'll probably be dead by then, but seriously folks, it's irritating. The only thing that makes me support him is that republicans are completely insane.

so don't see how this is much of a big deal.

Besides, the protests happened in the morning and the President Obama stuff was in the afternoon. there's room for both.

And how his little trip obliterates the coverage.

He could have done it a day or two later, and it wouldn't have made any difference, and May Day could have been better covered. And it really doesn't matter that it "hasn't" had significance, but that it should in the future.

I have no doubt the coverage would have been limited anyway, as the May Day message isn't exactly what the corporate news wants to get out. Still...wasn't good planning, unless obliteration of protests is what they wanted to achieve.

It wasn't his job to promote your event, that was on you. Whether there would have been more coverage of the protests is up for serious debate. I read a thread here yesterday, and it seems like this was a secret protest. Many people were unaware that it was taking place. If you want to be taken seriously, please don't go all 911 truther on the president's schedule.

When was the last time the M$M made a big deal out of May Day? There's one every year.
