Attending a Green Party Meeting
It was interesting - they were showing the movie about the Koch Brothers ("Koch Brothers Exposed" by Robert Greenwald, which has some very strong bits (the bits about resegregating schools and the industrial waste) and some less strong bits). Afterwards we had a discussion which quickly turned to Obama is no better than Romney, and about the importance of leaving the Democratic party. I am a fairly moderate Democrat, so this wasn't my mileau to say the least.
But one thing I can agree on - we need campaign finance reform (preferably public financing of campaigns), we need instant run-off voting, and we need redistricting to eliminate the "Safe Seats," in the House and the Senate. Those three reforms would create the context for change in this country. It would allow for third parties (which would include both the Greens and Tea Partys), and would make our democracy more vibrant and reflective of what we all think; instead of being the narrow wall stree parties we have now.
I probably would stay with the Democrats even if the Greens were a viable alternative, but I think a real challanged to the left could only make this country stronger. Frankly I even think a Libertarian Party or a Tea Party being viable would strengthen the country as well.
