Conservatives declare the word 'Forward' to be European and Marxist and stuff

Conservatives declare the word 'Forward' to be European and Marxist and stuff

by Hunter

So apparently conservatives have found their next hot conspiracy theory, given that it's been picked up by both Fox News and the Washington "Bat Boy" Times. Here's the National Review version, which is the most to the point:

“Forward,” that is. I knew that sounded awfully familiar. From Wikipedia:

Vorwärts (“Forward”) was the central organ of the Social Democratic Party of Germany published daily in Berlin from 1891 to 1933 by decision of the party’s Halle Congress, as the successor of Berliner Volksblatt, founded in 1884.

Friedrich Engels and Kurt Tucholsky both wrote for Vorwärts. It backed the Russian Marxist economists and then, after the split in the Party, the Mensheviks. It published articles by Leon Trotsky, but would not publish any by Vladimir Lenin...

Vorwaerts lives on today as the house organ of Germany’s leftist SPD; you can read all about its illustrious history here (in German).

And if you don’t think David Axelrod doesn’t know this, you really ought to think again.

All right, so here's the portion of our political day dedicated toward that most ancient of political questions: "Are you shitting me? I'm pretty sure you're shitting me."

The specific premise is that using a word suggesting progress in the frontfacewardish direction is Marxist, and is like pre-Hitler Germany, and that this is not coincidental or batshit crazy because David Axelrod no doubt intended to link the campaign to scary European Marxism as a secret message to conservatives that Obama was all secretly European and Marxist and stuff. I think. It might instead be suggesting that what's needed to clean this rampant Marxism up is a good old fashioned Hitler, but we'll give the benefit of the doubt on that one.

<...>

Personally, I like this new campaign slogan, because I fully expect Mitt Romney to counter it in the reflexive, knee-jerk anti-Obama way that has defined the entire party ever since the suspicious Marxist Kenyan ProbablyMuslim was first elected—and Mitt Romney standing at the 2012 Republican National Convention in front of a towering sign reading Backward! is quite possibly entertaining enough to justify this whole thing.

Throughout PBO's 1st term, they've been throwing the word around as if it's a bad word.

7. There is a deep seated sexual repressive side to every republican.

Sex is at the top of their skull at all times. As a result some perverted stuff comes out of their mouths, like the North Carolina preacher that talked about how young girls should smell and walk. What freaking normal adult male thinks about how young girls smell or walk? Normal men want their daughters to simply be normal children and eat properly.

12. The American right knows that it has to discredit Europe. Otherwise, Americans might learn

that the "old" continent is prosperous and much more progressive than the "New World" across the ocean.

The right's caricature of Europe as a continent of old socialists with a declining standard of living because they take the "risk" out of life, is a critical part of the GOP's effort to keep Americans from achieving the same progressive benefits that Europeans have.

In a sense this is a wise strategy for our republicans. If word gets out that Europe's high/progressive taxes, effective national health care, strong unions and stricter regulation of corporations leads to a stronger middle class, repubs will have a whole lot of 'splainin' to do since they oppose all of those things.

The Wisconsin flag has the word on it. Chris Christie used it to describe continuation of Walker in office. The word, except when an out of touch asshole like Christie is using it, means continuous movement toward a positive goal.

9. I had no idea two fifths of most basketball teams are Marxists!

For non sports fans, a normal basketball lineup consists of a Center, a point guard, a shooting guard, AND a power FORWARD and Small FORWARD.

Some well known NBA Marxists.....

Larry Bird (how does one of the best basketball players of all time end up at Indiana State? Could it be SOCIAL ENGINEERING? I heard ISU has a degree in ENGINEERING!)
Charles Barkley (have you listened to this guy? He is nuts!)
Dirk Nowitzki (he is German!)
Karl Malone (hmmmm, Karl!)
Tim Duncan (another foreigner and unnaturally quiet!)

They may be on to something.

And check out this link to the top 10 FORWARDS of all time! Notice the name? hoopsMANIFESTO!
