Are racial issues the way to get gun issues back into GD?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by DonViejo (a host of the General Discussion forum).

We have at least 2 postings today which have race as a component to what turns out to be (by posting volume) a discussion about guns. Are there any other issues which can be combined with guns so that they be posted in GD? This will be of valuable guidance to those who try to follow the rules in DU.

(I'm sure this will be alerted on, but I believe some clarification is in order.)

It was improper in my opinion.

2. You probably should ask admin in ATA, or else alert on those threads and give volunteer hosts time

to act. Or both.

5. Hosts are volunteers and sometimes it takes an hour. Why have you duped this thread?

Knowing it will probably get locked, yet you duped it. Odd.

I should have expected the Gungeon crew to pile on, but I did not.

And the other one has been locked -- after nearly 70 replies!

6. "The Gungeon crew...piling on." Respectfully, the issue-attachment method is old hat by now...

and if you have a liberal outlook on 2A, you have to go through GD in order to dispel the fraud that DU is a bulwark of gun prohibition.

You will note that the OP about the racial poster/gunshow poster had an unusually low turnout of anti-gun sentiment, probably due to its inflammatory and IMO disingenuous linking of racism to gun ownership; some of the usual controller/banner folks decided not to get into the thread. If controller/banners get to post in 2 groups and 1 forum, then there should be no surprise that those of a different outlook will turn out in numbers. That's not "piling on.". That' going with DU's flow as it is practiced.

Forum Hosts agree this gun OP is not appropriate for the GD Forum and is also a meta discussion:

GUNS

News stories (and related content) from reputable mainstream sources about efforts to strengthen or weaken gun control legislation in any jurisdiction in the United States, national news stories (and related content) from reputable mainstream sources about high-profile gun crimes, and viral political content from social media or blogs that would likely be of interest to a large majority of DU members are permitted under normal circumstances.

Local stories about gun crime and "gun porn" threads showing pictures of guns or discussing the merits of various firearms are not permitted under normal circumstances and should be posted in the Gun Control and RKBA Group.

Open discussion of guns is permitted during very high-profile news events which are heavily covered across all newsmedia.

DISRUPTIVE META-DISCUSSION

Positive threads about Democratic Underground or its members are are permitted.

Threads complaining about Democratic Underground or its members; threads complaining about jury decisions, locked threads, suspensions, bannings, or the like; and threads intended to disrupt or negatively influence the normal workings of Democratic Underground and its community moderating system are not permitted.
