Koch Brothers launch $6.1 million attack ad against Obama, Obama campaign responds, calling it “BS”

Koch Brothers launch $6.1 million attack ad against Obama, Obama campaign responds, calling it “BS”
by Eclectablog on MAY 2, 2012 in LIES, OBAMA FOR AMERICA

We’re not taking this BS lying down

The Koch Brothers group Americans for Prosperity has launched a $6.1 million ad attacking President Obama. You can tell they are prosperous when they spend over $6 million on one ad. In fact, this is now the second time Americans for Prosperity has spent around $6 million on an attack ad against the president.

I won’t link the odious ad but you can watch it HERE if you must.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/post/americans-for-prosperity-launches-61-million-attack-on-obama/2012/04/26/gIQAoWsajT_blog.html

Obama for America (OFA), the Obama reelection campaign, has responded quickly and, to my mind, very effectively. This response video is pretty unusual. It features OFA deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter talking plainly and simply about the lies in the ad. The ad is so blatantly false, she says, “The Washington Post said the ‘erroneous’ attacks were made ‘without shame’.

And, yes, Stephanie Cutter uses the phrase “BS”. Hallelujah!

These guys are going to say whatever it takes to tear down the President. They will literally say anything. They oppose expanding clean energy, they oppose higher fuel efficiency standards for cars and trucks. So we’re going to call their BS when we see it. And we need your help to call them on it too and to set the record straight.

So share this, tweet it, facebook it. I keep hearing about Tumblr and whatever that is please use that to. And thank you for all of your help.

Yes.

Huge sweeping graphics with drums and strings and an ominous announcer voiceover just looks like the same ol' same ol' lying MSM, whom you cannot trust. And it's so ubiquitous, it has little effect anymore.

Someone, a real person, introducing themselves and talking to you in everyday language actually grabs your attention and seems real, unproduced, genuine.

If the Koch brothers can afford to waste their money on BS attack ads like this, they can afford extra taxes.

If they can waste money on ads like this, how much more of your tax dollars will their candidate waste when he's in office?

edited to add:
Conservatives have wasted $??B in Iran and Afghanistan with their wars, what will they waste your tax money on next?

They spent 6.1 million on an ad.... about wasteful spending ... and STILL got the facts wrong. What about that ad is worth 6.1 million? The shot of the solar panels? The fact checkers? The lawyers?

I've seen the ad several times during major network prime time.

Not defending them in any way, just pointing out where I think a majority of the money went. Overall the ad itself looks to be barely above cheap cable ad quality production.

But I've been seeing this ad on prime time ABC/NBC/CBS.

AFP (Americans for Prosperity) aka Koch/Fox/Murdoch does own a a large margin of the world, but to advertise on the other big 3 networks still has to add up to a chunk of $$$$.

Again, I think the ad is full of lies and has low production value. The money was spent on airtime.

GOPers claim to be independent. How many times have we heard that so-and-so is a Republican and "fiercely independent," in other words, will not do what "government" tells him to do. No "nanny state" for them.

But yet, it appears Republicans are hiding behind the Koch Brothers. It's like these GOPers are letting their "Big Brothers" fight their fights for them. What happened to "fiercely independent" Republicans? Are "nanny-brothers" acceptable to GOPers?

Having the Koch Brothers set their political agenda and finance their campaign doesn't project "fierce independence."

against Obamacare that is running on the Hallmark channel (and about three other channels that appear to cater to Christians but that are right wing fronts).

The ad says Obama must go if we are to defend the Constitution -- from the program that the same Heritage Foundation developed at its stink tank.

Orwellian, really.

Stimulus Money for Jobs Overseas?

An ad from the conservative Americans for Prosperity distorts the truth about stimulus money for “green jobs” going overseas. The ad, titled “Wasteful Spending,” introduces some new wrinkles to this well-used line of attack.

Some other claims in this ad we’ve heard before, such as the absurd allegation that the stimulus did not create any American jobs (when the Congressional Budget Office’s economists state that it created or saved between 1.2 million and and 3.3 million jobs) and the overreaching claim that President Obama has “wasted” $34 billion on investments like Solyndra (when in fact only 2 percent of such loans have gone bad).

The ad begins, “Washington promised to create American jobs if we passed their stimulus. But that’s not what happened. Fact: Billions of taxpayers dollars spent on green energy went to jobs in foreign countries. The Obama administration admitted the truth, that $2.3 billion of tax credits went overseas, while millions of Americans can’t find a job.”

We’ve looked at the claim that “$2.3 billion of tax credits went overseas” a couple of times in the past, most recently in an ad from the American Future Fund. Both the American Future Fund and Americans for Prosperity ads cite a Sept. 9, 2010, story in the Washington Times ... So while it’s fair to say that the stimulus money likely created some jobs overseas, it’s not fair to say that all of that money went to foreign jobs. That ignores the realities of our global economy, in which some American companies manufacture overseas, and vice versa. The three examples cited in the ad illustrate that point.

The ad concludes that “President Obama wasted $34 billion on risky investments.” In the background is a banner for Solyndra.

As we reported recently, the Energy Department has committed $34.7 billion to nearly 40 green projects under low-interest loan programs, according to information published on its website. Two of them — Solyndra ($535 million) and Beacon Power Co. ($43 million) — have filed for bankruptcy, according to a March 12 report by the Government Accountability Office. What, if anything, the U.S. government gets back from the Solyndra deal is up to the bankruptcy court. It looks as if DOE may get back as much as 70 percent of its loans to Beacon. Still, worst-case senario, the government is out a total of $578 million on those two deals. That’s less than 2 percent of the total program, so it’s a stretch to claim the entire $34 billion has been “wasted.”

http://factcheck.org/2012/05/stimulus-money-for-jobs-overseas/

Imagine that: Both the American Future Fund and Americans for Prosperity citing an article in the Washington Times. Kind of like Rush citing a Fox News story about a study done my Sarah Palin on what the view from the coast of Alaska is like.

Once you are done destroying the lies, point out in no uncertain terms who originated the lies. Campaigns should call the Koch brothers out by name and show the photos as much as possible when calling them out.
