I don't mean hot flashes, I mean you're hotter ALL the time. You feel the heat more than the non-SSRI-consuming
person. When other people are wearing light jackets, you're OK in a T-shirt.
Your experience?

(16,327 posts)I tend to feel a bit warmer and I certainly overheat much easier than I did pre-SSRI.

(13,461 posts)I was EXTREMELY cold natured before and now I can actually survive the winter. My Sister has terrible overheating problems though because she didn't start out as naturally cold as me.

(53,521 posts)I hate hot weather and hated it before I started taking Paxil. I'm a cool-weather person, 50s and 60s are ideal.

(15,689 posts)which might explain feeling hotter.
Just a casual observation, not backed with any scientific method or anything.

(3,491 posts)about 3 1/2 years and I was hot all the time. Paxil is very bad news by the way, and there are a number of Class Action Law Suits. I am on Lexapro, and have been for about 2 years, really like it because it takes care of Panic attacks and Claustrophobia.
Both Paxil and Effexor are a bitch to get off of as well. I used to get sparks (electric like sparks) from Paxil.

And on and on they go.
And to be clear Paxil is not the only SSRI drug that has ongoing lawsuits.

(9,464 posts)Currently on Effexor. I had the 'sparks' (or 'brain shivers', as I've heard them called) mentioned above, they are unpleasant. Happens if you miss a dose, or are even a few hours late.

(238 posts)if you take any of these drugs, you aren't allowed to go outside if the temperature is high. They call them Hot Meds.

(51,076 posts)The doc tried to put me on paxil. In my infinite wisdom I only took 1/2 of a pill and let me tell you something. I've never in my life felt like I did for the next three days. My skin felt like it was crawling, I had involuntary body movements, could not sit still, could not hold a thought. I told my doc that if he ever gave me something like that again I'd choke him to within an inch of his life. I was pissed and when I think about it I'm still pissed about it. When I see someone that is taking one of the ssri I see them with some of the same side effects I experienced. like the involuntary body movements and clouded thoughts. doc said I was allergic to them and I said good now make damn sure that is in my medical records so I won't be given something like this again.
SSRI's should be illegal if you want to know what I think. I feel for anyone who takes them. Maybe it doesn't do to others as it did me but I've known a few who were taking them and they seemed to have the same tics as I did.
I have anxiety and have my whole life and it was like pulling teeth to get them to give me something for that but SSRI's they would give me all I wanted if I'd wanted any. Sorry shit if you ask me.
As you can see I'm still pretty upset about all this. Sorry bastids anyway

(8,646 posts)Oh, god, I was on Celexa for YEARS. I was always hot, sweaty, miserable in the summer. Good thing I lived in northern Canada.
I went off Celexa (found out the problem was a spouse who was a narcissist/asshole and not my mental health) and it took me 2 years to stop being constantly frozen. I was wearing fleece sweaters at 85 degrees, LOL. Now I'm adjusted and comfortable most of the time.

(6,199 posts)It didn't make me noticeably hotter, but I was also undiagnosed hypothyroid and always ran a little cold.
