California Governor Jerry Brown did not mince words. Discussing climate change he summarily dismissed the ignorance of Ted Cruz as seen in the above snippet. (video in the link)
Chuck Todd and Governor Jerry Brown were discussing the dire straits that California has found itself in with its record drought. In the discussion Todd asked Jerry Brown if his state's condition could be attributed to climate change. Brown's answer was deliberately measured. He acknowledged that in fact climate change is real. However he noted that one event is not enough to blame on climate change. His answer had the necessary caution to ensure it could not be used as a political gotcha.
While the governor did not want to single out California in the aggregate of climactic events, one has to draw that conclusion given the peer reviewed studies supported by over 90% of scientists. Chuck Todd then played a clip of Ted Cruz's willful ignorance displayed on Seth Myers show where he lied about the scientific data on climate change. Governor Jerry Brown's response was epic.
"What he said is absolutely false," Brown said. "Over 90% of the scientists who deal with climate are absolutely convinced that the human activity, industrial activity, generation of CO2, methane, oxides, nitrogen, and all the rest of those greenhouse gases are building up in the atmosphere. They are heat trapping. And they are causing not just warm, drought in California, but severe storms and cold in the East Coast. So it's climate disruption of many different kinds. And that man betokens such a level of ignorance and a direct falsification of existing scientific data. It's shocking and I think that man has rendered himself absolutely unfit to be running for office."
That could not be said any better. Ted Cruz is a clear and present danger not only to thinking Americans but to the entire well being of the country. His effect on policy would be fatal.

(81,220 posts)That's MY governor there. My former and present governor! I voted for him both times, last time he ran, decades ago. Proud of it then, still proud of it now. And he's already run my state back into the black. Brought things back from the brink of ruin where ahnold and all his fun little republi-CON friends left it when their time ran out. It ALWAYS takes a Democrat to clean up after a republi-CON. With NO apologies to dick cheney, THAT'S when "the adults are back in charge": When A DEMOCRAT TAKES OFFICE, FOLLOWING A republi-CON.

(7,960 posts)Even in his 70's old Jerry packs a punch.
I found myself mourning the fact that the guy who brought California back from the brink has, due to his age, taken himself out of consideration for 2016. Why is it that even though demographically the Democratic party rank and file is younger than the Republican base, all of our best leaders these days are old?

(5,279 posts)If you think about it, that is too limiting a way to describe Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz (and I think Rafael is a fine old name; well seeped in tradition and history. It says a lot about how far he is willing to pander to racist nitwits when he hides his own name).
Ted Cruz is a danger to thinking. He views it with suspicion.
By choosing to accept an anointing from some cultist dominionist shamen; He is stepping into the role of Modern Messiah; an unquestionable ruler wielding social power by divine right.
Best not to think about that.
By publicly distorting scientific facts and attempting to trap actual scientists with "gotcha" questions; he is attempting to discredit thought itself. As being too muddy or uncertain for normal folks.
He wants the citizens to leave the difficult job of reigning in the "head in the cloud crowd" to him or...Best not think about it.

(21,751 posts)Another "family values" super patriot whose speeches had no basis in reality.
Remember when Reagan liberated Auswichtz, saw the "welfare queen" wearing a fur coat and driving a new Caddy, or the "strapping young buck" (his words, not mine) collecting welfare. Oh, and if you cut taxes on the uber-rich, you will actually collect more taxes and the benefits will "trickle down" (his words again) to the middle class. There are Commies hiding in your community and your daughter will date a colored.
I am old enough to have laughed at Reagan's Presidential bid, but I will not laugh at any of them again.
The politics of fear, resentment and self-righteousness win again and again, and Ted Cruz is a master of the art.

(8,545 posts)saying they would not vote for Pat Brown because Brown was the "lesser of 2 evils."
I wonder which evil Republican thought up that phrase. The zillionaires should have paid the person well because it helped George W Bush get in the White House. And it's being used against Hillary Clinton now and will be used against her if she is the Democratic nominee.
If enough people had voted for the "lesser of 2 evils" in 1966 and in 2000, the middle class would be so much stronger today and no Americans would have died in Iraq.
