Romney Hits Obama Administration On Chinese Dissident

Romney Hits Obama Administration On Chinese Dissident

Mitt Romney attacked the Obama administration over its handling of blind Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng, who sought asylum at the U.S. embassy after fleeting house arrest. Chen left the embassy for treatment for a foot injury at a hospital. Chen originally said he wanted to live freely in China, but after he heard about threats to his family, he now says he would like to leave China.

Romney today criticized the State Department’s handling of Chen. “If these reports are true, this is a dark day for freedom,” Romney said. “And it’s a day of shame for the Obama administration.”

Threaten the Chinese? Turn Chen over to the Chinese? What sort of control does he think Obama has in this situation over what the Chinese do or what Chen does? Right now it seems we're providing asylum for a dissident, and in this instance, the minimum and the maximum response are pretty close to each other. Unless Romney thinks we oughta be sending an attack wing over to China to nuke the shit out of them.

What a nincompoop.

Even in the nomination campaign, all he had was negative advertising. He's never stuck his neck out and offered any new ideas because he's a coward.

I'm starting to see that again and again, his most consistent character trait is cowardice.

But fer crissakes, the Chen situation doesn't really admit to an easy pat-answer solution. Romney's uninformed yammering for the sake of yammering isn't just counterproductive, it's a good way to escalate the situation to where something happens that everyone (except Romney, who's merely campaigning, and doesn't recognize any so-called "reality" events) regrets.

diplomatic relations, with the fate of Chen and his family in the balance, this ignorant, self-serving bastard dares to open his big mouth? He knows nothing about this and I. for one. will hold him responsible if this thing falls apart. What a jackass!
