(29,377 posts)I usually vote on the Working Families Line (Obama won that line this year).
I will vote for some loser - either a Green or some other third party dude.
I may vote for Obama on the WFP line - depends on who the Greens and the other third parties run.
NNN0LHI
(67,190 posts)Am I correct on this?
Don
...are you advocating voting third party and against the Democratic candidate?

Thank God we live in a democracy where we have the right to vote for who we want, not just a choice between the lesser of two evils.

Vote for Democrats.
Winning elections is important therefore, advocating in favor of Republican nominees or in favor of third-party spoiler candidates that could split the vote and throw an election to our conservative opponents is never permitted on Democratic Underground. But that does not mean that DU members are required to always be completely supportive of Democrats. During the ups-and-downs of politics and policy-making, it is perfectly normal to have mixed feelings about the Democratic officials we worked hard to help elect. When we are not in the heat of election season, members are permitted to post strong criticism or disappointment with our Democratic elected officials, or to express ambivalence about voting for them. In Democratic primaries, members may support whomever they choose. But when general election season begins, DU members must support Democratic nominees (EXCEPT in rare cases where were a non-Democrat is most likely to defeat the conservative alternative, or where there is no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative). For presidential contests, election season begins when both major-party nominees become clear. For non-presidential contests, election season begins on Labor Day. Everyone here on DU needs to work together to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of American government. If you are bashing, trashing, undermining, or depressing turnout for our candidates during election season, we'll assume you are rooting for the other side.

(12,530 posts)The text you highlighted, therefore, isn't really relevant, given that it mentions "...spoiler candidates that could split the vote and throw an election to our conservative opponents". That condition will not be met in the state of New York, plain and simple.

(14,400 posts)where it says you can't advocate for third party wackos unless you're in a place that will give the vote to Obama?
on edit: Oops, it does kind of say that.

(40,365 posts)It's only prohibited when there is a chance to split the vote and thus give the election to the Repubs. This ain't going to happen in NY.

(34,825 posts)on the failed war on drugs is now a single issue? mix in targeted assassinations and indefinite detention and then those single issues start to stack up like cordwood.

(8,492 posts)...where in the OP it says any of that. You aren't allowed to put words into the OP's mouth. You may start your own thread with your concerns, but you still can't tell us what someone else was "really" thinking when they wrote, "This year I will support a pro-pot candidate for president".

This thread is clearly advocating for a 3rd party.
Why hasn't it been zapped yet?

There's no chance of splitting the vote in NY and thus putting the state in the Red column.
frylock
(34,825 posts)no, this election has to be a landslide; a beatdown of biblical proportions to illicit any sense of satisfaction for some folks. and that's why the bullying and browbeating of people who aren't entirely satisfied with the lesser of two evils will continue.
