I was just reading about a "9-11 Truther..."

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by MineralMan (a host of the General Discussion forum).

One that is well-respected in many liberal circles.

Why do they still exist?

"Jews were warned to stay out of the WTC."

"They weren't airliners, they were missiles disguised by holograms."

"The towers were brought down by explosives."

"It was a truck bomb at the Pentagon."

And so on...

I am not a 9-11 truther, but then again, I don't believe much of anything our government tells me, either.
Why does that bother you so much? Authoritarian? Truthers of any sort are not hurting anyone, as far as I can tell.

in having an investigation that, when it did finally occur, was a farce. They wonder how a building that was not hit by a plane collapsed later in the day. They have reason not to trust the administration that conducted the post-9/11 investigation, produced the "official" report, and used the event as an excuse to invade a country that was not involved while allowing one that was, Saudi Arabia, to get away with their part in it.

I could go on, but no one gives a shit.

bringing up 9/11. All any of us needs to know is that shrubco told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth and that the 'official story' of 9/11 is the final and truthful word and statement on the matter.

Now, move on to other more important stuff.

Asking serious questions about 9/11 is somehow wrong to these people. Just because they don't care what really happened is no reason to mock others who really do care. The Pentagon is our biggest DEFENSE building, but yet is able to get attacked 40 minutes after the second tower. We were told NOT to blame ANYONE and go shopping. And the only evidence they have to show us at the Pentagon is a blurry video. This from our TRILLION dollar defense dept.

But the yahoo's who call us truthers don't care about science or facts. They're convinced Bush told them the truth.

It's a good way to discourage people from being skeptical: connect honest questions to lunatic-fringe conspiracy nuts.

A lot of people still believe or suspect that some powerful US 'interests' might've had foreknowledge, or even tangential involvement in the plot. Are they all 'truthers'? (It is a pejorative label, right?)

The Bush admin was repeatedly warned that something big was coming down the pike and they did NOTHING. Maybe gross negligence, but equally likely they "let it happen on purpose" because they believed it would bolster their (eventual) argument for invading Iraq.

The only 9/11 "truth" that hasn't been ferreted out fully is how the Bush Admin protected Saudi Arabia in the aftermath of 9/11. The ommission was SO apparent that Max Cleland (hardly a kook) quit the 9/11 commission because the Bush Admin refused to come clean about SA's involvement...

Gross incompetence and hubris. They saw the PDB. They didn't believe anyone would actually attack the US, especially with the big tough Bush gang in power. They were wrong. People died.

No further speculation required with that approach, and not letting the Bush administration off the hook in any way.

It is equally damning to be that ignorant and incompetent.

Though no doubt, we'll soon find another way to feel more clever about ourselves at the expense of others when that day finally arrives...

Without evidence at all. They literally started appearing on day one. Their "evidence" has been beyond debunked. Those real truthers are few and far between at this point. Fact is that they are anti-science. They have proven it over and over again. They determined what really happened, then looked for information to back them up. That in itself will lead one down the wrong path almost every single time. It is how Fox News reports.

You are right that their numbers and presence have greatly diminished. Many of the initial truthers were not stupid people. There were many reasons to question motives at the time. That coupled with all of the misinformation made some form of conspiracy fairly easy to believe. In the end, that group settled on the facts available and within somewhat short order became one of those calling the truthers stupid.

Kochs and many others such as Russia are very upset about low oil prices. After the kerfuffle in Yemen (I have not been watching the news. Pardon my ignorance) oil prices went down. As Molly Ivins said if you are not paranoid, you are just not paying attention.
