Reality Shift - Comic - Scandanavia and The World

http://juliamoved.com/2011/01/11/open-doorslead-to-choco/

"Just this today:

“Staff forgot to lock in internees. On thursday night, the staff on duty forgot to lock in six prisoners in Norrtälje, three of them convicted for murder. The prisoners used the opportunities to bake chocolate fudge cake in the shared kitchen and watch TV: “The cosiest evening we have had in a long time”, says one of the captives.”

This isn't the Onion, just a different reality.

They have universal health care, too, damn evil horrible people with no morals, humanity and ... Yeah, that looks like a nice place to live.

If ever life is totally hosed up, buy one way ticket to Sweden, upon arrival commit non-violent crime with nice long jail sentence attached and sit down and wait to be arrested.

satire on the politics of all nations, and something to make you laugh.

My favorite character is Lady Finland.

it's satwcomic.com

Hilarious, all the way around . Actually, DUer Scootaloo was the first to mention it, and I think it's great .

Read the bylines because they are extremely interesting and add a lot of context.

the author's notes are great, too, in providing context in case it isn't obvious.

In Sweden, they even value the lives of criminals. Makes sense, putting the Golden Rule into action shows how all have a chance at redemption.

When you treat people like animals, they become animals. I understand that our nation started with people enduring hardships, but why must we continue placing people in positions of hardship?

That's my take on it.

I'd be willing to bet a doughnut that most murders in Sweden are crimes of passion, meaning that an otherwise mostly decent (but perhaps unstable) person snapped against someone they perceived had wronged them.

Where I would believe that a far greater percentage of murders in the US are cold emotionless crimes. Murdering as part of robbery, killing someone because they are part of a rival gang, killing because of race. Murders where it wasn't about the individual themselves, but about what they had or what they represented.

We have failed so many in this country, and there are a lot of broken people on our streets because of it.

do desperate things. That's the lesson I take away from this. When making people desperate is the national past time, it's not surprising that you reap what you sow.
