NC paper takes back endorsement after candidate 'embarassed himself' questioning Obama citizenship

(CNN) -

North Carolina's largest newspaper rescinded its endorsement in a congressional primary Thursday, saying the Republican candidate "has done nothing but embarrass us and himself" since receiving their backing less than a week ago.

Noting recent "birther" comments Jim Pendergraph made shortly after receiving their nod last Saturday, The Charlotte Observer said in an editorial there are "at least two better choices" among the nine GOP contenders seeking to fill the vacant 9th district seat.

Pendergraph -- a former sheriff who also served in the Army military police and is a commissioner of North Carolina's Mecklenburg County -- drew the Observer's rebuke after questioning the citizenship of President Barack Obama at a weekend campaign event, according to the paper.

"I have reason to be suspicious," the Observer quotes him as saying on Saturday. "But I don't know. I haven't seen the facts. I think there's a lot of smoke and generally when there's smoke there's got to be fire somewhere."

"I've been around long enough to know people can forge anything," Pendergraph continued, the paper said.

This jerk was on the edge of being over the edge when he received the endorsement.

The newspaper's endorsement just encouraged him to think he could go flat-out stupid and get away with it.

But at least now they both look stupid.

" But it's GOT to be true. I heard it on the Rush Limbaugh Show! "

You just can't make up this level of stupidity.

Well done, Charlotte Observer.

I Believe...

In a Constitutional limited government

Marriage is between one man and one woman

We need to reduce taxes and regulations on small businesses to stimulate job growth

In eliminating the inheritance tax entirely

We need to create a level playing field that allows American business and industry to compete with foreign competition

We need to stop sending billions of american tax dollars to countries that don't like us

In telling the american public the truth that we must reduce our national debt and that it will require both eliminating wasteful washington spending and personal sacrifice that will not be painless

And support the line item veto

In repealing Obama-care

In securing our borders

We must enforce our existing immigration laws

In developing a coherent national energy policy that will support drilling for oil and natural gas in America (on and offshore)

In developing a national strategy to deal with the reality of homegrown terrorism rather than continuing to pretend it does not exist

And strongly support the 2nd Amendment Right to Bear Arms

All life is sacred – and I support the right to life

In school choice and in returning decision making power back to our local school boards

He's nuts, but that's not surprising. Mecklenburg County basically threw out a legitimately elected black sheriff because he was a little too radical for all us honkies.

What's sad is my mother, who's graduate school educated, believes this tripe too.
