Luntz Tells Dems How to Win

Luntz Tells Dems How to Win

Republican pollster Frank Luntz has come up with a list of five myths about Republicans. He's really talking about voters, not elected officials. Let's take a look at the list:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/five-myths-about-conservative-voters/2012/04/27/gIQAFxr0lT_story.html

1. Conservatives care most about the size of government.
2. Conservatives want to deport all illegal immigrants.
3. They worship Wall Street.
4. Conservatives want to slash Social Security and Medicare.
5. Conservatives don’t care about (economic) inequality.

Luntz specializes in finding the right way of asking a question in order to get a positive response. He tests out different phrases to see which ones people respond to the best. So, what he's demonstrating is less what the base of the GOP thinks than the most effective way of getting them to respond the way Luntz wants them to respond. But I still don't think Luntz is wrong in the bigger picture. He has identified five things that are generally, in a statistical sense, not true about Republican voters.

What he has thereby done is paint an exact portrait of how a Democrat should run in conservative areas of the country. Populism, populism, populism.

between the rank and file, and Luntz's bosses.

Luntz's job is to fool those people that don't want to cut Social Security, fool them into voting for people who are intent on destroying it. i.e. fool them into voting for the people paying Luntz.

And they're paying him for this article. I don't know what the angle is, but it is intended to help the GOP, not to inform anyone.

1. Conservatives care most about the size of government.

Except for the part that delivers their particular benefits , the part that kills brown people in large quantities, and the part that punches hippies, they are fine with those parts.

2. Conservatives want to deport all illegal immigrants.

Except for Jesus the groundskeeper and Maria the maid.

3. They worship Wall Street.

Even if they don't own a single equity, or even know what an equity is..

4. Conservatives want to slash Social Security and Medicare.

Except of course for their own SS and keep the government out of their Medicare.

5. Conservatives don’t care about (economic) inequality.

Oh they care all right, they'll do anything they can to enhance economic inequality.

I think he's arrogant in that he sees himself outside the politics, and he shares his techniques with the public.

And I guess you could say he's good at what he does.
