I've launched a petition calling on Obama to protect the rights of citizens to record cops in public

Some of you might know my background. I am a journalist who's been arrested three times in the last five years for recording cops in public.

I also run a blog called Photography is Not a Crime where I document these ongoing abuses throughout the country.

Yesterday, I discovered the Obama Administration encourages citizens to create and circulate petitions to call the president's attention to certain issues.

I need to get a total of 25,000 signatures within 30 days in order for the administration to review the petition. Right how, we have 234 signatures. I launched it last night at 10 pm EST.

Here is the petition.

Here is the blog post with more background.

This is not about me. This is about everybody.

One of the last ways that we can combat police corruption. If the right to record the police goes away completely, we're pretty much fucked as a society.

It's just that they are being abused.

I'm doing this to bring it to the president's attention for whatever that is worth.
