NYC I detective in Viral Uber Rant Video Apologizes...but loses his badge and position

NYC detective in unmarked car went all testosterone on a "foreign" Uber driver.
The cop apologized AFTER the the video went viral but that did not save the guy from consequences:

Cherry’s apology comes after the detective was stripped of his badge and gun and transferred out of the FBI's elite Joint Terrorism Task Force. Police Commissioner Bill Bratton also admonished Cherry after the video went viral online, saying “No good cop can watch that without a wince”, and the NYPD and independent Civilian Complaint Review Board have been investigating the exchange.

"That's not who I am, that's not who I've been and that's not how I conducted myself as an officer in New York City," he added.

ETA another story. Glad they stripped him. I don't care if someone you know had a heart attack, this is inappropriate, as are the other dozen times you had complaints filed against you.

Since 2001, the CCRB has received over a dozen complaints regarding the NYPD detective who was recently caught on camera berating an Uber driver in an unhinged xenophobic rant. Detective Patrick Cherry, who was stripped of his badge and gun and placed on desk duty yesterday, appears to have some anger management issues; according to the NY Times, some of the prior complaints contained "similar allegations."

Others feel the NYPD is coming down too heavy on Cherry. Michael J. Palladino, the president of the Detectives’ Endowment Association, says that before his fateful encounter with the Uber driver, Cherry had been visiting a fellow detective with the Joint Terrorism Task Force who is hospitalized following a heart attack....

Instead of driving around New York City all day.

That's not really very punishing. It almost sounds like a reward because it seems like a much easier, cushier job.

The punishment should be more like picking up trash on the side of the highway or something.

if he can't be done for his abusive behavior.

Hey, dumb cops, guess what? Lots of people are carrying around devices that can record video! One of them may even record YOU if you act like an asshole!

Any cop who is too thick to have figured that out by now has no business being in that job.

That cop would have lost his job.

This is good that this asshat NYPD officer lost his job, but I can't fail to see the irony.
