Pope Francis has reportedly barred the nomination of a close aide of President Francois Hollande as new French ambassador to the Vatican because he is gay.
The apparent rejection calls into question the pope's reputation as holding more liberal views on homosexuality.

Wow what a huge difference on his stance a while back....
Pope Francis on gays: 'Who am I to judge?'
Aboard the Papal Airplane (CNN) - Pope Francis said Monday that he will not "judge" gays and lesbians, including gay priests, signaling a shift from his predecessor and offering another sign that the new pope is committed to changing the church's approach to historically marginalized groups.
If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge? Francis said in a wide-ranging news conference aboard the papal plane.

(50,566 posts)He talks about "equality" -- what a fucking joke! Equality is only for straight males, according to the corrupt and evil RCC. Anyone who considers themselves a progressive and still supports this villainous church is equally hypocritical. For shame!

(45,251 posts)Remember, the Catholic Church had been saying for quite some time that the Church okay with gays, as long as they don't engage in same gender sexual activity. And Catholic priests, gay or straight, are not supposed to have sex. None. Ever.
Francis never said if "someone" engages in same gender sexual activity," who am I to judge?
However, newspaper headlines, for whatever reason, made it seem as though Francis had said something radically different than the Church had been saying before he became Pope. Media did that on a few other occasions as well. And many in the public fell for it.
And now, media is making it seem he's dialing back (from something media created in the first place).
Did Francis choose his words carefully, to give the impression that he was departing from something, while not departing at all? Probably. But media should have, and probably did, "see what he did there."
Should we expect to have to parse the Pope's words lest we be deceived? I don't think so?
(I wonder: If he had said "nun," instead of "priest," would more people have caught what he actually meant?)

(45,319 posts)have any sexual or romantic relationships of any kind and who create no sort of 'gay lobby' which was what he was in fact ranting and railing against the gay lobby and the Masonic lobby, blah, blah 'this is bad' he said.
That speech on his private jet was never a positive thing, liars claimed that it was in order to serve themselves and assist in making the way clear for more Religious Freedom laws.

(20,135 posts)That meant if you're gay, it's fine only as long as you have no romantic relationships, and no sex. Which has been in the Catechism long before Francis came to power; it was nothing new.
