“If they get to nominate Hillary Clinton, why don’t we get to nominate Dick Cheney?” — Bill Kristol

“If they get to nominate Hillary Clinton, why don’t we get to nominate Dick Cheney?”

— Bill Kristol, quoted by Crooks and Liars.

STEPHANOPOULOS: One final question for each of you, who is the most promising Republican candidate not in the race yet?

SOLTIS-ANDERSON: Oh, gosh, not in the race yet? Well, almost none of them are in the race yet. I suppose Jeb Bush. He does the best in the polls and hasn't officially announced anything. So I'd give him as my answer.

BRAZILE: You know, I go back to Mitt Romney. I mean, look, you don't like old faces, but you know what he did run a good game last time.

SMILEY: It sound strange, but I still can't figure out why John Thune hasn't looked at this more seriously.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Oh, that's interesting.

KRISTOL: If they get to nominate Hillary Clinton, why don't we get to nominate Dick Cheney/ I mean, he has a much -- he has a much better record...

(CROSSTALK)

KRISTOL: He has a much better record...

SMILEY: God help us all.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Thanks a lot. I'm going to go with John Kasich.

Hillary will have Barack Obama and Bill Clinton as examples what a democratic president can do.

Who do the Republicans have? The-Bush-who-shall-not-be-named, the-Bush-who-always-gets-forgotten and that guy who sold weapons to Iran.

Then, The Dick could direct her presidency like he supposedly did W's.

All kidding aside, I don't care if Howdy Doody is the Democratic candidate, we must support him. A Republican reign would destroy what is left of the U.S.

Dick Cheney had 18% approval rating. He is hated. He did a horrible job. He is a horrible human being. No one outside the insulated world of Bill Kristol's high thinks he has a much better record.

Those pandering to the insane and the insane. Kasich kind of straddles that line. I think I'd actually trust him in a crisis, but then again I suspect that any Republican president will ensure a full bounty of crises for a decade... kind of like the harvest of Islamic fundamentalists that Bush-Cheney planted in 2003.

Since 1980 Republicans have been nominating pretend loonies hoping they were loonies (like Bob Dole) or nominating loonies hoping they were secretly responsible adults (like Bush Jr with his "bipartisanship" bait-and-switch). McCain is interesting cause he pretended so hard for so long that eventually he became the lunatic all the moderates had convinced themselves he could corral. He's kind of like that shrink from Watchmen, spending so much time trying to ingratiate himself with the extremists that he eventually lost his equilibrium.

Half of my country has been swallowed by crazy. Half of what's left is asleep. God help us.

That means that the loonies have written him off. I see very little chance of his winning the nomination.

Kasich might end up on the ticket as VP. For example, if Cruz wins the nomination, he might go full-on Tea Party and pick someone like Brownback, but he might follow a more traditional political calculus and reach out to the other elements in the party. Kasich has executive experience, a more moderate image, and popularity in a crucial swing state.
