An unidentified male concert-goer has come under fire for his offensive choice of festival fashion after he was photographed at Coachella wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the words 'Eat Sleep Rape Repeat'.
The snapshot, which shows the man giving the peace sign as he flaunts his controversial shirt at the festival held in Indio, California, sparked outrage after it was shared on Twitter on Sunday by Jemayel Khawaja, the managing editor of Vice's music and culture channel Thump.
'This guy wins the award for worst fashion/lifestyle choices @coachella. I'm not easy to offend, but this is sh**** [sic],' he tweeted along with the picture.
-----
'@JemayelK @coachella Is that real? I imagine it was meant to say RAGE? [sic],' one critic asked, while someone else added: '@JemayelK please say that's photoshopped?? [sic]'
But Jemayel confirmed that he had taken the snapshot and seen the shirt with his own two eyes after one Twitter user asked: 'Before I jump on the appropriate rage wagon, did you take this picture yourself?'
'Yeah I did. Rage away,' he replied.
The shirt, which doesnt appear to be sold online, may have been custom-made for the event.
Meanwhile, someone else confirmed that another Coachella reveler had taken to Twitter on Sunday to share their disgust after running into the man in the controversial T-shirt.

(11,804 posts)I quite like the song "Eat Sleep Rave Repeat" although it's also pretty stupid and sexist. Now when I hear that track I'll think of this shit.
And it's even more depressing to live in a world where people like this asshole exist and are apparently comfortable with it.

(69,364 posts)The guy looks like a complete asshole who is trying too hard to be edgy. The fact that joking about rape is perceived by anybody as an avenue to being popular is depressing all by itself.
The impression I'm getting is that there is an entire subculture of assholes who think rape is hilarious. Can anyone confirm this?

(6,409 posts)I suppose I should be used to it by now, but it still surprises me when people (mostly men) display bumper stickers and tee-shirts with messages that say, basically, "Hi there! I'm stupid! I'm bigoted! I'm ignorant!" I guess they're doing us a favor by identifying themselves.

(18,318 posts)It has a certain avant conformity with it; I.e., enough hepcat not to get you totally embarrassed. It allows for one or more of the following standardized comebacks:
1). Can't you take a joke?
2). It's just a shirt?
3). Are you PC?
4). I'm trying out a new APP or web site
5). Get over it
6). I got free speech
7). Look how many hits I got
9). I'm a provocateur
10) Pissed you off, didn't I?

(18,318 posts)In various stores in the gentrifying East Side was owned up to by some grab-your-ass attorney who, variously, pointed to the stupidity of those who believed the action, "didn't care" about those affected (including minority-owned businesses), was just trying out something new, etc. It's that now owning what one did, and the emphasis on "others' stupidity, which washes away any authenticity for any action; only some gaseous celebrity remains.

(9,213 posts)It's interesting in a "knee jerk reaction" society how people just automatically jump to conclusions about someone.
Like if you were to wear a shirt saying "Homeless" I would assume you are trying to bring attention to homelessness, rather than mocking the homeless.
It would be interesting to hear this guy's explanation....then if it's stupid we can roast him. Otherwise, it may just be a terrible attempt at satire.

(5,169 posts)Lots of Faux News talking heads are blonde. So rather than taking the time to find out what any particular blonde thinks, just round them all up.
And people who park in handicapped spaces without a permit. And people who talk during movies. And people who turn or merge without signaling. And... and... and...
To be safe, the 85% of America who fail the progressive purity test should be locked up.

(2,337 posts)The shirt is in extremely poor taste, but he has every right to wear it.
Likewise, people are free to criticize him for his dumb shirt. Free speech is awesome like that.
Can't say I'd ruin someone's life over a tasteless and offensive shirt.

(12,151 posts)Stupid (or even vile) T-shirt slogans are a handy index to people you don't want to know / come into physical contact with / allow to bring you a drink.
It's like a GMO label for creepy bros!
I remember standing in line at the airport security line -- THE AIRPORT SECURITY LINE, MIND YOU -- behind a guy wearing a "An armed man is a citizen! An UNarmed man is a SUBJECT!" t-shirt, complete with guns and eagles and pit stains. There may have been a Liberty Bell or a rattlesnake or a Mt. Rushmore in there somewhere.
I was glad he had that shirt. Kind of put everyone on notice who we were dealing with.
