In recent weeks a lot of DU'rs have expressed interest in learning more about him and his positions.
He may or may not run for the Presidential nomination, and he may be even more viable as a VP candidate. So often, when his name is floated, there seems to be a lot of people that would like to know more about him, and I asked in AtA if it was possible if there is interest. http://www.democraticunderground.com/12597719
My intent, for the record, is NOT to be divisive now that Hillary Clinton has entered the race.
I believe it might be good for informational purposes.

(30,481 posts)My concern would be that the group might take away from learning about him. Some of us don't venture into groups that much. That being said, if you think it will be beneficial, I will support it.

As more candidates declare, they all should have their own group, IMNSHO.

(4,732 posts)last Sunday. Warren has a group and she keeps saying she is NOT running.
Thus, running or not running has nothing to do with if you should have a group.

(11,175 posts)I was noticing how many people express interest in learning more about O'Malley. One possibility would be to create a Group that was aimed at meeting that need, rather than at promoting O'Malley. IOW, a post saying "Here's something O'Malley got wrong when he was Governor" would be permitted, unlike the tightly restricted content of the BOG or the HCG.
At this stage of the campaign, my feeling (as someone definitely looking for a non-Hillary candidate and interested in O'Malley) is that an open exchange of information would be more valuable than yet another playpen where people can insulate themselves from views they don't like.
Raine1967
(11,589 posts)I think it would be fair to make it one as well.
Right now, the Maryland group is a good place to mention about things O'MAlley got wrong.
I have never done this before, I don't even know if I want to be a host of the group, but I suspect we will find people willing to do so.
Jim Lane
(11,175 posts)It would certainly be fair to make a safe haven O'Malley Group, but I see some argument for not doing so, at least at this early juncture when there's a significant constituency looking for information, not cheerleading.
If O'Malley, as a candidate or prospective candidate, makes a speech about the Iran nuclear deal, would a post about that be appropriate for the Maryland Group? I wouldn't think so. Even something in the Maryland Group about events during his governorship might never come to the attention of many of the people who want to assess him as a possible nominee.

(11,175 posts)The Barack Obama Group is at 116 blocks, which I'm guessing puts them in first place (or last place, depending on how you look at it).
Prediction: By the time of the Democratic National Convention, the Hillary Clinton Group will have more blocks than any other Group on DU.

(11,175 posts)My point is only that O'Malley-as-possible-President goes beyond O'Malley-as-former-Maryland-official and so some relevant information would be off-topic for the Maryland Group (unless Iran has a secret uranium enrichment facility just outside Annapolis).
