Miller pretending the war criminals of the Bush regime simply 'got it wrong', saying 'no evidence that they lied'.
Historic revisionism on a monumental level, and the morning joke crew are lapping it up, and sympathizing with her whining about being a scapegoat and not a cheerleader for war.

(52,118 posts)sorry, but when you set about to knowingly kill even one person, never mind hundreds of thousands, you have an affirmative moral obligation to "get it right".
never mind that few of us believe her that the administration didn't know full well that it was all a lie; even if they were all duped, they had an obligation to do everything they could to make sure they weren't getting duped.
if there's "no evidence they lied" (ha!) then there's certainly no evidence they bothered to find out if what they were peddling had anything remotely to do with the truth.

(44,988 posts)The bullshit Miller and Bushco methodically peddled were not in any way just "getting it wrong". It was a grand deception without a doubt. And Miller is a liar.

who then quoted that very same stuff he gave to you through Scooter Libby in your NYT's
writing as proof of Iraq's WMD program. No amount of soap and water can wash the blood
of your hands.
Trying selling your crap to the family of Dr. Kelly who figured out that the case for war
in Iraq was a bunch of lies and whose last email before he "commited suicide" was to you
Ms. Kelly.

I love Heleman in particular. He's getting a bit fed up with Joe and the likes of Nicolle when she is on the show.
There was a lot of revisionism coming out of Miller's mouth...I loved her statement "I went to jail for the 1st Amendment."

And yes, the 'went to jail for the first amendment' was pretty bile-inducing all on its own.

(27,247 posts)How could anyone believe that a country that had been the most sanctioned, the most surveilled, the most bombed country in the world during the 12 years leading up to Iraq War II, and which had barely had the ability to lob a missile at Israel in Iraq War I, could somehow, during that time, develop weapons of mass destruction that could reach the US or the UK?

(19,820 posts)For those who have had the good fortune to know nothing about Ms. Miller and her role as an enabler of the Bush Administrations marketing of the Iraq invasion, heres the briefest of primers.
Miller was a dogged reporter whose special knack was cultivating powerful men as sources. Its tricky to write a sentence like that --- you cant help sounding like the pundits who call Hillary Clinton aggressive. But that was, in fact, how Miller operated;
(snip)
But when Bush became President, her sources narrowed: Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, Douglas Feith, Scooter Libby. If she didnt have an agenda, they did. They have it still, and if anyone took them seriously, we would have already leveled Tehran.
In the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, government officials made remarkable claims. Dick Cheney insisted that 9/11 hijacker Mohammed Atta had met an Iraqi intelligence officer in Prague a few months before Atta flew a plane into the World Trade Center. (That meeting didnt happen.) Condoleezza Rice also saw ties between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein. (Despite all evidence to the contrary, Rice was still saying this in 2006.) But the biggest whopper was Millers claim about Iraqs intentions to develop weapons of mass destruction.
As an embedded reporter in Iraq, Miller saw buried ingredients for chemical weapons production. Well, she didnt exactly see them. Clad in nondescript clothes and a baseball cap, she wrote in the Times, a former low-level Iraqi scientist known as Curveball pointed to several spots in the sand where he said chemical precursors and other weapons material were buried. A few hours after that piece was published, Dick Cheney went on Meet the Press and quoted Miller. Others followed. Bob Simon, of 60 Minutes, was quick to see through the kabuki. "You leak a story to the New York Times," he told Franklin Foer of New York Magazine, "and the New York Times prints it, and then you go on the Sunday shows quoting the New York Times and corroborating your own information. You've got to hand it to them. That takes, as we say here in New York, chutzpah."
It took two years for Miller to admit her reporting couldnt be confirmed: WMDI got it totally wrong. But it wasnt her fault; she was deceived by her sources. Well, not even deceived. They meant well. They just got it wrong. Its a defense we hear often. Indeed, its the single best argument against the passive voice: Mistakes were made.

(20,018 posts)An analogy:
Someone kidnaps, rapes, tortures and murders some innocent victim.
The perp never goes to trial, lives a full life, dies happy.
Much later someone says, "You know, he was really guilty."
Justice? Not hardly.
Even bringing the criminal to trial and punishing them appropriately isn't justice (the victim didn't deserver to die that way!) but having someone point out -- much later -- that an injustice was done...
It is so wrong to call THAT justice that saying so is a crime against humanity.
Jefferson23
(30,099 posts)who was responsible and why it all happened as it did..when the historical record is
clear, that is the only justice some people ever receive..the truth. Future generations
will know what happened, that is important.
Do I want and demand that Bush and company be tried for their crimes, I do.
Is that going to happen? Not likely.
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)The fact is they did the crime(s). If they want to plea bargain, OK. Let's save a trial and give them a very generous (for them) sentence. Say a day each for every Iraqi death. Let them become eligible for parole once they have served 10% on their sentence. In 2151, we can see if they have been rehabilitated.

(92,061 posts)are trying to do is rewrite history. Her excuse is that I wasn't the only one who did it. Bullshit. Knight Ridder, and others were reporting that there were no WMDs. The UN inspectors were also reporting the same thing. So what these so-called criminal reporters did was get their talking points from the bush administration. She was dating Scooter Libby for gosh sakes.
As far as I am concerned she and the other lazy and inept reporters who pushed this lie, have as much blood on their hands as the bush administration.

(19,958 posts)Same bullshit BushCo has used all along. "It's all the intelligence community's fault" is a pretty safe claim for them to make because independent investigators will not be allowed into the CIA and NSA to dig up the truth, which no doubt has always existed down at street level where real people handle real intelligence--or the lack thereof--without a political agenda.
kentuck
(111,052 posts)No one is at fault because every one believed the intelligence community? The "intelligence community" is not at fault. Therefore, no one can be held accountable.
She seems to be saying, "If you can't trust the CIA, who can you trust?"...
moondust
(19,958 posts)Among other things, she claims she had followed the situation in Iraq for a long time before the 2003 invasion and that "everybody" in the international press believed Saddam still had WMD.
It wouldn't surprise me if BushCo dreamed up the whole scheme well in advance, maybe even in the 90s, to invade Iraq for the oil on the pretense that it was to take out Saddam's WMD, then after it's over and there's no WMD to blame the intelligence community since independent investigators can't get in there to find out the truth.
Maybe someday an old CIA analyst with terminal cancer will write a book to set the record straight. Until then everybody in the CIA who knew the truth is probably watched very closely, bribed and threatened as necessary to keep their mouths shut.
