That is the picture of a conservative.

It was many years ago when I came to realize the same thing.
I seriously wondered if they are born selfish and simply spend their lives trying to find a way to justify it as "OK".

A President of the Indiana Right-to-Life said something similar about Liberals believing that most people are good and that government should help people while Conservatives know that people are inherently evil and need God's law to control them.

(16,984 posts)I'm a little troubled that I can't find the source for the quote, but it does sound like him, and I do think it hits the nail on the head.
The corollary to leaving work up to volunteers is of course leaving relying on charitable donations -- i.e., people's disposable income, given or withheld by choice and individual decision -- to address the world's problems.
