Not sure if you'd call it a "salon", but it'll be the first fundraising event of the campaign with her in attendance.
NYC can be a fun place for politics.

If Gentile doesn't win he can challenge Marty Golden for Senate.

(15,438 posts)By the way - and not to be sexist in any way - but have you noticed how refreshed and beautiful she's looking these days, even after being constantly attacked by those useless Republican candidates who have nothing else to run on other than attacking her? She has an infectious smile while she's also so cunning and undaunted. Can't help but admire the woman.

(94,727 posts)That said, I will observer that, unlike Bill, Hillary tends to be somewhat "reserved". I once spent 10 minutes with her -- absolutely alone (no aides, no SS) at an event in NYC (we both arrive too early), and I never felt she let her professional guard down. By comparison, Bill and my wife got into a 15 minute discussion on an idle question my wife asked, and it was as if they were the only two people in the room.

(15,438 posts)an incredibly enchanting man. He does have the reputation of being warm and personable, and can put nervous people at ease, so it doesn't surprise me that he'd been so charming.
I do believe Hillary has to be somewhat reserved (and if you're into that sort of thing, she IS, after all, a Scorpio and they're known to be very reserved on the outside!) but I'm certain that she's as warm and enchanting as her husband is famous for.
A fun fact: my second son and Hillary Clinton have the same birthday (October 26th) and I can tell ya that he's as warm and charming as can be if and when he feels comfortable with you. Otherwise, he can appear somewhat aloof...but he's anything but. I feel that Hillary is a lot like that. It's why I have a soft spot for her - in addition to being the strong, intelligent, fearless, and elegat woman she is. I agree with President Obama -she would make an excellent president for these United States - IF Joe Biden decides not to run.

(135,425 posts)There are people in this world who will make something out of nothing when it comes to HRC--they just HATE the fact that a woman can be strong, smart and successful. I hope she kicks ass and takes names. She IS the smartest person in the room!

I met Hillary once in Utica NY early on.. and I'm not rich. It was a fun experience.

(9,463 posts)second gubernatorial campaign in AR back in the day. She was kind of quiet and reserved in those day (in person) but I have admired her and her career ever since. I do think, however, that she made a mistake with Iraq, which she has admitted. But I don't hate her and I will support her if she is our nominee. Until then, I will also support her, in lieu of any other candidate I can get behind in the primaries.

(297,655 posts)Your meeting goes way back.. those are good historical memories right there!
She was my Senator and I was very pissed at her for quite awhile.. but, as soon as she got on board with then Senator Obama.. my animosity was gone.
And, it's good to hear she's embracing President Obama's accomplishments.

(9,463 posts)but boy has there been some water under the bridge in the intervening 30 years or so! And it didn't stop there for me. Bill lost that election and I moved on to other places and things. So, I was living in Virginia and caught up in my own life, not much into politics in the latter '80s and imagine my surprise to see Bill's face turn up as a Democratic presidential candidate! At that moment, I was hooked back into politics and began working in Virginia to help Bill get elected. The rest is history. Some years into his two terms (don't remember which, 1st or 2nd) I had the added honor of actually shaking President Clinton's hand at an event in Dallas and he actually remembered me from the old Arkansas gubernatorial days! It was a quick encounter though, and I was sorry we didn't have a few minutes to chat, and maybe I might even get a White House invite! But. alas, the encounter was too short and he was gone.
I have actually also met Presidents Carter, GHW Bush, GW Bush, and Obama (during the campaign, before he was elected). So, if Hillary becomes president, I will have met and interacted with six presidents. Not bad if I do say so myself.
