The FBI head agent in charge of the anthrax investigation Richard Lambert has just filed a federal whistleblower lawsuit calling the entire FBI investigation bullsh!t:
In the fall of 2001, following the 9/11 attacks, a series of anthrax mailings occurred which killed five Americans and sickened 17 others. Four anthrax-laden envelopes were recovered which were addressed to two news media outlets in New York City (the New York Post and Tom Brokaw at NBC) and two senators in Washington D.C. (Patrick Leahy and Tom Daschle). The anthrax letters addressed to New York were mailed on September 18, 2001, just seven days after the 9/11 attacks. The letters addressed to the senators were mailed 21 days later on October 9, 2001. A fifth mailing of anthrax is believed to have been directed to American Media, Inc. (AMI) in Boca Raton, Florida based upon the death of one AMI employee from anthrax poisoning and heavy spore contamination in the building.

(29,346 posts)I know the answers to that but the US, defense officials, etc aren't as naive & mindless wandering around with no clue Wahabbism was started by Saud dynasty.
The Saudi Role in Sept. 11 and the Hidden 9/11 Report Pages
Since the early days after the Sept. 11 attacks, when news emerged that most of the airline hijackers came from Saudi Arabia, dark allegations have lingered about official Saudi ties to the terrorists. Fueling the suspicions: 28 still-classified pages in a congressional inquiry on 9/11 that raise questions about Saudi financial support to the hijackers in the United States prior to the attacks.
Both the administrations of George W. Bush and Barack Obama have refused to declassify the pages on grounds of national security. But critics, including members of Congress who have read the pages in the tightly guarded, underground room in the Capitol where they are held, say national security has nothing to do with it. U.S. officials, they charge, are trying to hide the double game that Saudi Arabia has long played with Washington, as both a close ally and petri dish for the worlds most toxic brand of Islamic extremism.
One of the most prominent critics is former Florida Senator Bob Graham, a Democrat who co-chaired the joint investigation of the House and Senate intelligence committees into the Sept. 11 attacks. On Wednesday, in a press conference with two current members of Congress and representatives of families who lost loved ones in the attacks, he will once again urge the Obama administration to declassify the pagesa move the White House has previously rebuffed.
There are a lot of rocks out there that have been purposefully tamped down, that if were they turned over, would give us a more expansive view of the Saudi role in assisting the 9/11 hijackers, Graham said in an interview. He maintains that nothing in them qualifies as a legitimate national security secret.
<snip>
According to Graham, a former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, the Saudi officials knew that people who had a mission for Osama bin Laden were in, or would soon be placed in, the United States. Whether they knew what their assignments were takes the inference too far.
The 2002 joint congressional committee probe he co-chaired reported only that, contacts in the United States helped hijackers find housing, open bank accounts, obtain drivers licenses, locate flight schools, and facilitate transactions.

The odd thing about keeping the "28 pages" a secret is it is such an open secret. Wahabbism & Saudi Arabia not hard to put the two & two together
----
Bandar bin Sultan: This is ironic. In the mid-'80s, if you remember, we and the United - Saudi Arabia and the United States were supporting the Mujahideen to liberate Afghanistan from the Soviets. He [Osama bin Laden] came to thank me for my efforts to bring the Americans, our friends, to help us against the atheists, he said the communists. Isn't it ironic?
Larry King: How ironic. In other words, he came to thank you for helping bring America to help him.
Bandar bin Sultan: Right.
Former FBI translator and whistleblower Sibel Edmonds, interviewed by Brad Friedman on the The Mike Malloy Show on June 2009 has stated: "I have information about things that our government has lied to us about. I know. For example, to say that since the fall of the Soviet Union we ceased all of our intimate relationship with Bin Laden and the Taliban - those things can be proven as lies, very easily, based on the information they classified in my case, because we did carry very intimate relationship with these people, and it involves Central Asia, all the way up to September 11."[5]

Sibel Edmonds testimony on the 9/11 Commission is also in the 28 pages. Here they are -- http://cryptome.org/nara/sibel-edmonds.pdf
Aside from that you had Cheney in an "undisclosed location" which was an underground bunker in the Pentagon planning a lot of the NSA & CIA plans that exist today. Now that may seem like as a far out conspiracy...
'Undisclosed location' disclosed
A visit offers some insight into Cheney hide-out
Known familiarly to government insiders as the "underground Pentagon," this is where Vice President Dick Cheney set up shop in the aftermath of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and where he sometimes is when his office is being secretive about Cheney's whereabouts.
The location is a highly secure complex of buildings inside Raven Rock Mountain near Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., close to the Maryland-Pennsylvania state line and about seven miles north of Camp David.
<snip>
"I work physical security at an undisclosed location in southern Pennsylvania, that's all I can say," said a well-armed fatigues-clad Army guard as he politely but firmly told the reporter that "everything you see is classified."
<snip>
Site R -- also known as Raven Rock or the Alternate Joint Communications Center -- is a 53-year-old facility conceived at the start of the Cold War as an alternate command center in the event of nuclear war or an attack on Washington.
Sloping, round-humped Raven Rock Mountain sprouts a thicket of antennae, satellite dishes, and a microwave tower. From state Route 16, the main road that passes the mountain, two oversize metal doors in the hillside are visible through the heavy foliage giving it that Fortress of Solitude touch.
Information about Site R is available on the Internet, and its location -- and use by Cheney -- appeared in several news stories even before the publication of Bamford's book.
Cheney's disappearance to undisclosed locations -- a frequent occurrence after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks -- is believed to be unprecedented for the nation's highest elected officials.
As described by Bamford, the mountain also has a helipad. "But deep inside the hard greenstone granite mountain is a secret world of five buildings, each three stories tall, computer-filled caverns, and a subterranean water reservoir," he writes.
Within hours of the Sept. 11 attacks, Bamford said, five helicopters landed on the helipad, a convoy of sport utility vehicles with black-tinted windows arrived at the main entrance, and tan buses "began laboring up the steep, two-lane road to the heavily guarded, unmarked service entrance. Among those early to arrive was Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz."
The unmarked back entrance is a twisting lane off Harbaugh Valley Road. To the unknowing, the chain-link fence with a double-wide coil of razor wire might be a tip-off, as would the guardhouse and a big red "warning" sign.

Bush, I won't say wasn't smart but was useful as he'd deliver bumper sticker lines in response to detailed reasons why Gore supports this or that, Gore for a politician was actually pretty honest. He was actually a little too honest but I liked that happen about it, he just didn't challenge Bush on a lot of his BS but Gore was very sharp & logical in debates only for Bush to deliver his "compassionate coservative". Dick Cheney ran the show WTF was he doing, we'll never know the real reasons for a lot of things since they go to extreme lengths to keep things a secret.
I don't really allege something specific in terms of 9/11 I just want to know what is really on & so it is so obvious the marketed reasons for why they are doing something & go far to cover up.
We know Al-Jazeera was bombed in Afghanistan, the station was known & identifiable in the area. Not plausible it was a mistake. It happened again in Iraq. After this Bush wanted to bomb Al-Jazeera again but Tony Blair & Colin Powell talked him out of it --
Al Jazeera memo
The five-page memorandum is said by the Mirror to be a record of the meeting between the two leaders which took place on 16 April 2004 at the height of Operation Vigilant Resolve, an assault on Fallujah by U.S. Marines and Iraqi security forces. Al Jazeera reporters were in the city providing video footage of the conflict. The day before the meeting, U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld described Al Jazeera's coverage as "vicious, inaccurate and inexcusable."[1] Al Jazeera reporters defended their live broadcasts of the civilian casualties by stating "the pictures do not lie".[1]
The White House has dismissed the allegations made in the article.[2] Given that Qatar is an ally of the United States and the United Kingdom in the Iraq War, many commentators have speculated that even if the reports of the memorandum are accurate, they may simply be recording a statement which the President did not intend to be taken seriously. A White House official told CNN "We are not going to dignify something so outlandish with a response," and a Pentagon official called the Daily Mirror report "absolutely absurd."[3] A BBC News correspondent has suggested that if President Bush did indeed make the comments they were intended as "some kind of joke."[4]
Writing in The Independent on 28 November Andreas Whittam Smith countered, observing that "official note takers don't normally record jokes". He also pointed to the alleged leaker's "25 years' experience of tough postings in place such as Islamabad and Khartoum, ... often involved in intelligence work" and concluded that he "must have felt exceptionally troubled by what he was seeing."[5]
According to a report in The Daily Telegraph[6]:
"People who have seen the document say the real reason that it is being suppressed by the Government is because it contains a potentially damaging private discussion between the two leaders about the controversial United States attack on the Iraqi city of Fallujah last year."
The report also stated that, when questioned about the matter at the Commonwealth conference in Malta, Blair branded the claims a "conspiracy theory."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Jazeera_bombing_memo
If you ever really, I mean looked into the atrocities committed during the Battle of Fallujah it was so obvious what Bush was afraid of. We have the American Sniper movie when in reality multiple witnesses from various background of residents, humanitarian aid workers, journalists etc all claimed a "fear of looking out their windows" & the worst of it was "snipers hidden on the rooftop". The US aid worker said his colleagues hood was hit with sniper rounds trying to transport a patient out of Fallujah which checkpoints wouldn't allow teenage & older males leave. People fleeing Fallujah were shot down. Bodies tossed in the Euphrates. The right wing bashes the left for not embracing the fantasy land version of reality, if they were honest with why they support something they'd disappear quickly, the party platform is built on fairy tales.

Arguably, had the NSA/CIA been more efficient, the 9/11 attacks could have been prevented. Then again, it's likely they were efficient, but ignored--

3 NSA veterans speak out on whistle-blower: We told you so
When a National Security Agency contractor revealed top-secret details this month on the government's collection of Americans' phone and Internet records, one select group of intelligence veterans breathed a sigh of relief.
Thomas Drake, William Binney and J. Kirk Wiebe belong to a select fraternity: the NSA officials who paved the way.
For years, the three whistle-blowers had told anyone who would listen that the NSA collects huge swaths of communications data from U.S. citizens. They had spent decades in the top ranks of the agency, designing and managing the very data-collection systems they say have been turned against Americans. When they became convinced that fundamental constitutional rights were being violated, they complained first to their superiors, then to federal investigators, congressional oversight committees and, finally, to the news media.
To the intelligence community, the trio are villains who compromised what the government classifies as some of its most secret, crucial and successful initiatives. They have been investigated as criminals and forced to give up careers, reputations and friendships built over a lifetime.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/06/16/snowden-whistleblower-nsa-officials-roundtable/2428809/
Thomas Drake was a famous one. He leaked unclassified documents to a Baltimore Sun reporter prosecuted him & retroactively classified it like they did with Sibel Edmonds but NSA veterans, experienced brilliant people telling us we have a right to be concern & for that they come in with guns drawn to arrest them. Snowden claimed (and I have no idea why anyone would believe it couldn't possibly true) went through various multiple channels tried many ways & while he they were sympathetic, many were scared because of what happened with Thomas Drake. Others warned that they will crucify him for this.
There is own crowd what wants you to believe "they keep us safe" & have told numerous lies now proven to be untrue. The other crowd is telling you the truth. I don't care if warrant less spying keeps us safe, if you don't have probable cause or the necessary requirements (which should be strengthen, the 5th amendment has been eroded considerably since the "War on Drugs" now almost meaningless text on paper
I'm rooting hard for Jewel in Jewel v NSA. The Electronic Frontier Foundation is an excellent law firm, they are right firm for this one. Government just wants to keep everything a big secret. Intercepting all data communication in Barbados? Government doesn't want you to know either? May concern Bill Gates or Oprah Winfrey (people who vacation there) though probably won't mind since they are keeping them safe.

As an FP, I had patients entreating me to write them letters exempting them from anthrax vaccination on health grounds. It was very controversial among the troops. The Pentagon responded by creating a pr campaign targeting doctors, telling them "Anthrax kills" so that they would stop advising their patients against the vaccine.Their pr campaign was a big flop.
I have always (as in from day one) believed that it was the Pentagon which mailed the anthrax. Their ploy worked. Suddenly, the troops agreed to get vaccinated.
The facts that 1) the anthrax used was a weaponized form that would be hard to get and 2) the FBI would not let them DNA test saliva found on one of the envelops confirms my suspicion. Who had the most to gain from the anthrax mailings? Our own military. Who would the FBI want to protect? Our military. Who commonly conducts biologic weapons tests on the US public? Our military.

FDR then subsequently threatened to expose their treason to the nation if they tried to block his New Deal legislation. The New Deal policies passed (Social Security, unemployment, WPA, CCC, etc.) and the thwarted repugs have been trying to get them repealed ever since.

(36,418 posts)I looked into allegations that Prescott Bush was involved in the 1933 Banker's Plot against FDR, and could find no evidence of that. The Bankers Plot primarily involved Morgan bank and members of the Du Pont family and Remington Arms, who also featured prominently in the Nye Committee "Merchants of Death" hearings. On the other hand, Prescott and Herbert Walker were employed by Harriman Brown Bros., a different Wall Street faction. They were business partners with the owners of the Steel Trust and other Nazi party funders who had major interests in Silesian coal and mining interests. The Silesian-American company, on which board Bush and Walker served, operated in the area surrounding the Buna synthetic oil and rubber plants built to operate with slave labor at Auschwitz.
Averill Harriman, Bush and Walker were named in 1942 by the Enemy Property Custodian as being on the boards of several German companies and banks providing direct funding to both the Nazi Party and Third Reich armaments industries.
The Dulles Brothers at Sullivan and Cromwell law firm represented both groups, along with the same German industrialists who backed Hitler.

(57,034 posts)That family has been up to their nose in nefarious activities that would easily be classified as seditious if not for their wealth and wasp connections.
As far a the 1933 Banker's Plot, I don't know about that but the American Liberty League coup attempt involving several prominent families (including Prescott Bush) who recruited Gen. Butler is a part of actual history.
Google the American Liberty League.

(36,418 posts)Where exactly did you read that Prescott Bush was involved in that one, too?

(4,748 posts)so was fascinated to see this story appear. The FBI seems quite good a catching (entrapping) terror plotters that they have enabled and yet this real attack goes unsolved. Fuckin' a.

FBI would work as intended. And traitors would be behind bars, instead of Gov. Don Siegelman. They got the tapes, thanks to illegal NSA domestic spying going back to the 1970s.

I'm not sure why the others were targets but it is easy to figure out this one & only journalist receiving a letter had be over some manufactured BS to justify something else, Judith Miller, I'd wager she expected the letter.

(35,704 posts)There was a letter sent to the FBI shortly before the anthrax letters were opened, anonymously accusing Ayaad Assaad of being a bioterrorist (He was quickly cleared), and this was amidst racial harassment that he endured from co-workers, seems very convenient.

(36,418 posts)I was also leery about this source, but it lines up with information that appears in more mainstream publications.
The Washington Post had an editorial in 2011 that called for a new investigation based, in large part, upon this FBI Supervising agent's complaint and the Bureau's IG report. There isn't much new information in this piece other than the filing of a whistleblower's law suit. Otherwise, it appears pretty solid.

We shouldn't ever forget the work that people did when the "Internet for the People" was young and it was like one could finally have a Voice.
Fight to keep that from going away. Its already being eroded but, we can't all Influence Gotten Money (whether its their Own or from Others or it comes from either Democratic or Republican Sources or Outside Influences who influence both parties)....Money Creates Power.....and Erodes Societies if it Gains TOTAL CONTROL.
We are now at the point where "TOTAL CONTROL" is the reality.

that SHUT DOWN our government for a number of weeks.
It caused a Urine Dripping PANIC among our elected representatives.
Every single one of them fled Washington DC,
but left their staffs behind!!!
....with the exception of 1st Term Senator Mark Dayton from Minnesota.
He stayed behind long enough to take care of his staff.
He told HIS staff that is DC was too dangerous for him,
it was too dangerous for THEM too,
and released his staff. Dayton was the ONLY one (Senators & Congressmen)
who expressed this concern for his staff while the other self-important Senators & Congressmen were fleeing.
