Hillary Clinton crushes Republican rivals in new poll

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/hillary-clinton-crushes-republican-rivals-in-new-poll-2015-04-20

By Robert Schroeder
Apr 20, 2015

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — If the presidential election were held today, it wouldn’t even be close.

Hillary Clinton is crushing her potential Republican rivals by double digits in a new CNN/ORC International poll. The Republicans’ best showing is by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who trails the former senator and secretary of state by 14 points. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who hasn’t declared his candidacy yet, lags Clinton by 17 points. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are each 19 points behind Clinton.

Rubio and Paul have declared their candidacies, but Christie hasn’t said he’ll run.

Clinton is also the overwhelming favorite for the Democratic nomination, with nearly seven in 10 Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents supporting her.

Even including the poll’s margin of error, Clinton would still have a double-digit lead on Rubio and the others. The poll was taken April 16-19 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points. It was released Monday.

"We do better when we work together. Women & men, all of us across every line that is used to divide us.” - Hillary.

Why would I want to help the opposition?

By opposition, I mean the media who play games promoting their agenda, their narrative, and their choice of candidates.

I don't mind polling, done well, of opinions and publishing these results and the study methodology, as regards issues, but don't support "who would you vote for".

These favor people with name recognition and people with the money to project an image, which may be a false one.

We are seeing that right now, and this poll outcome is evidence of these phenomena.

But of course you reject it.

What's wrong with a telephone poll? Will you only be satisfied with a door-to-door? Or are you trying to imply that users of cell phones weren't included? If so, you're wrong.

"This sample includes 615 interviews among landline respondents and 403 interviews among cell phone respondents."

And people who screen their calls, or who only take voice messages, etc.

And it assumes that people answer honestly.

Really, a valid methodology would require a higher N and a mixture of engagement strategies.

The poll is useful in one respect, it can be administered repeatedly and show trends but the trends will only apply to:

people who pick up the phone and participate in the poll, a likely minority of all phone users.

I can't think of a mechanism that can be build into the methodology to adjust for this factor.

Busy people, hard working people, people who distrust polls or strange numbers calling them are not included in these polls.

I would not be included in this study because I have a life.

I would submit that people with less to do and who just don't care are over-represented.

People with less to do who just don't care people lurve Hillary Clinton!

I'd "meh" a statistically valid poll if it didn't validate my biases too. Just wait til they publish polls that do in fact, validate our biases-- then we'll rationalize a distinction without difference and somehow justify holding them to different standards.

It is interesting that he decided to become a Democrat after his 22% approval ratings compelled him not to run for re-election for the Rhode Island governorship:

Hard as it is to imagine, Congressman David Cicilline and Gov. Lincoln Chafee have managed to lose even more public support.
Cicilline’s job approval rating has sunk to just 15% among all Rhode Island voters, down from 24% in December, according to a new Brown University poll released Thursday morning. Chafee’s approval rating isn’t much higher at 22%, down from 27%.

To put those numbers in perspective, President Richard Nixon’s approval rating was 24% a week before he resigned over Watergate in 1974. Slightly more voters rated Chafee’s job performance as poor (45%) than said so about Cicilline’s (43%).

Don't forget that probably the biggest reason that Senator Obama, at the time, defeated Hillary Clinton in '08 was because of the Iraq war vote. That was the issue,” Chafee said on CNN.

But the poster is gone.

But if Chaffee thinks that HRC's IW vote was the "biggest reason" she lost to Candidate Obama, then, I suspect he's been hanging out on DU to get his HRC attack points; rather than, talking to the Democratic base.

are happy to leave things out of a story, and leave the wrong impression,
and when they get called wrong, they just pretend they fixed it by
reporting errors days later, but not before the sell their news papers with
