(11,833 posts)I do know, Ms. KMOD, that you tend to start threads based on a lot of stuff I haven't even read, lol.
I sometimes only read a few thread in GD or, as tonight, get stuck reading one long hilarious thread. This evening that would be the one about Dr. Oz and GMOs that has over 500 recs. It's mesmerizing & hilarious.

They don't, really, but sometimes it's fun to think they do.

(11,833 posts)and anti-military interventions. Of course, on everything else liberals hold dear like protecting civil rights, progressive taxation, regulating Wall Street, they are diametrically different. At least as I see it.

(27,247 posts)I get the impression that that is one of their main tenets, at least as far as their own civil rights are concerned.

(11,833 posts)Rand Paul is on the record as being in favor of removing the civil rights act and the voting rights act. If anything, I think those acts should be strengthened and more fully enforced.
Sure, there are different kinds of libertarians. And yes, as far as their own civil rights are concerned they are probably all for it. But please read up a bit on where most of them today stand on many issues that are core principles of liberals and core principals of the democratic party.

(27,247 posts)But if he's in favor of repealing the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, then he is nuttier than I thought.

(10,893 posts)I'm pretty sure he opposes contraceptive rights. IDK where he stands on gay rights, though.
But like his father, Rand's freedom fighting street cred looks a bit shaky.
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)I think on a lot of stuff like gay marriage he says he opposes it & 'leave it to the states.' Of course, we heard the same during Jim Crow.
Skidmore
(37,364 posts)apparently does not see civil rights as important enough to protect. And, Rand Paul is not a Libertarian (capital L). He's a Republican.

(11,833 posts)and he kept going on about the fed. Whenever I tried changing the subject he kept going on and on about the fed. He'd been laid off from some investment bank. Drove a Porsche, smoked lots of weed, married a rich neurotic. Thought he was way smarter than he was. Shockingly ignorant of the most basic civics and history knowledge. I thought he was a smug insufferable ignoramus who acted like he'd just joined a cult.

(10,893 posts)Democrats and progressives in general, since his agenda is toxic for ordinary people and is the antithesis to what we want. They ultimately want to do away with government, while the Left sees it as a useful thing in most cases. The Internet is pretty much their only outlet. In real life, the Paul clan isn't taken very seriously (especially with Rand's pet weasel on his head), and Rand's father struggled to stay polling in the double digits even within his own party in 2012.

(37,428 posts)A few things Paul has said sound like what we want, so much so that maybe they forget that he's a lying, weaselly airhead. Yeah, I can believe that some well-intentioned people are willing to promote him a little.
I'm sure there are trolls exploiting that perceived vulnerability of DU's.
