The House recently passed CISPA.
CISPA lets our passwords, emails, and medical records be given to private companies in the name of cyber-security.
CISPA has no requirement for us to be told that our passwords, emails, and medical records were given out.
Any cyber-security bill the Senate passes will be merged with CISPA.
The Senate is preparing to pass Joe Lieberman's cyber-security bill. That bill is awful itself, would be merged with CISPA to make it even worse.
Please tell your Senators: Don't pass a cyber-security bill this year. We don't need one.
Under current law, companies share cyber-security information.
Under current law, the FBI arrests hackers.
Form to contact Senators against advancing CISPA.

(30,252 posts)Both my Senators are Republicans. They'll vote for it no matter what I say. Honey badger don't care.

(35,619 posts)...Harry Reid will try to pass Joe Lieberman's cyber-security bill, with the expectation of all the Democratic Senators voting for it, plus a couple of Republican Senators.
You could tell your Republican Senators:
- Don't help Obama to spy on us. Vote against "The Cybersecurity Act of 2012."
- Don't let bureacrats order around private internet companies. Vote against "The Cybersecurity Act of 2012."

Using a foreign email host with a secured connection is also useful.
For now, the tools are out there and freely available. Breaking the encryption is not practical.

(35,619 posts)...a bill which merges Joe Lieberman's cyber-security bill and CISPA.
Obama signed the NDAA Indefinite Detention Bill and the extension of the PATRIOT Act.
Our best hope to contact our Senators and persuade them not to advance a cyber-security bill this year.

(35,619 posts)The White House said that it would recommend that Obama veto CISPA.
However, the bill he gets won't be CISPA exactly. It will be a combination of CISPA and Joe Lieberman's bill, "The Cybersecurity Act of 2012."
I think our best chance of stopping CISPA is to urge our Senators not to pass cyber-security bill this year, as any cyber-security bill they pass will be merged with CISPA.

(8,124 posts)I hope to GOD that Obama doesn't sign this.
He signed NDAA, he extended the war in Afghanistan 10 years.. he keeps Gitmo open and he busts medical MJ .
If Obama signs this.. it will show what he really values.

But now it's back and apparently Harry Reid is expecting every Democrat in the Senate to vote for it and a couple of Republican Senators.
