Put plainly, the Teabagger/GOP plan sounds downright insane -- because it is

If we had allowed GM and Chrysler to go belly up, kept the war in Iraq going and slashed $1 trillion from the federal budget all at once, everything would be peachy by now.

What we really need to do going forward is balance the budget ASAP -- no matter what it takes. And we need to cut really, really deep to make extra room to further cut the taxes of the richest Americans. But no military cuts will be allowed.

It seems insane when you put it that way. However, that's what the Tea Party/GOP economic argument really comes down to.

If half of America can be sold a bill of goods like that, then maybe a sizable number can be convinced that a private equity guy with money in offshore tax havens and Swiss bank accounts knows what's best for them.

But I would not count on it.

But they will want to do it until they succeed, and when they do succeed, they'll blame the French for the outcome.
