This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by DonViejo (a host of the General Discussion forum).
it is the conversation. it is a conversation i am having repeatedly with fellow duers.
i like to understand, and part of that is communication. this is a discussion board after all. we should all excel at communication. especially since most of us have been talking to each other for a decade, lol.
ah the coy.
my political views. the last couple weeks i have had people assuming what my political views are. they have been telling me what my political views are. i tell them they are wrong. for those that accuse to please tell me what they think my political views are. that i will correct them. they have all refused to even ask.
i have it all over the board. not hard to have an honest conversation with me. so..... i am doing this OP to talk about, talking about our political views. i think that is a start. anyone else?

189. you can't answer? damn right you cannot answer. so please quit saying you know what my position
is.
how dishonest to not tell me my position. i know you cannot tell me, cause you already made the wrong ASSUMPTIONS. got that. basic logic 101.
my positionSSSS are all out there on the board, for anyone interested in knowing what my positions are.
also
i am more than willing to actually TELL you what my position is. i am not shy. i have nothing to hide or be embarrassed about sitting on a democratic progressive board, .... cause my POSITIONS are democratic and progressive.
i am feeling kinda safe here.
how about you?
cause see. i keep asking what others positions are. they are all yelling prove it. i am all saying. no, just tell me. really. i TRUST you to tell me your position. and you know what. some of them refuse.
why?
i do not get that. why in the world would someone be unwilling to tell us what their political view is?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026579635#post189
i think i am on the side of all democratic progressive views. i am excited for all of our democratic contenders and candidates. i am excited about this election. i love to listen to our democrats speak out and be heard. i cheer them all. i raise my fist, i might even say, yeeehaw, if it is something smart.

(9,002 posts)This talk. I have repeatedly said that I duers friendly language.
I want to understand and communicate in part. It is after all the discussion board. We must succeed in a statement. Moreover, the majority of us, lol talked to each other for ten years.
of shy.
My political views. In the past few weeks my political views were that people in the assumption. they told me that my political views. I have them, they are wrong. Please tell them that he thought blame my political views. I will fix them. all refused to even ask.
I have them all on board. it's not hard for me to make an honest conversation. So ..... I'm talking about our political views, I do this OP talk. I think this is just the beginning. Someone else?

(8,267 posts)"Obvious" person is truly transparent? I see consistently argumentative and derisive come-backs from that individual, and will likely relegate said individual to my IL.
I LOVE your posts, sea. I love the ways you express yourself, and I have no difficulty whatsoever understanding you.

(32,886 posts)That attack on "Embracing Liberalism" flies in the face of Manny's support of Elizabeth Warren, who took her own good time in "Embracing Liberalism" after supporting Reagan.
If he hates the idea of a need to "Embrace Liberalism", Warren shouldn't be his candidate.

(110,159 posts)political in some manner, work on not being so obvious. and well, wrong.
i am not talking about the conversation i posted or the poster. geeez. i do not even remember what started this conversation. it is every thread. a handful of people lumping everyone together, so none of us has to be heard.

(110,159 posts)i do not know what all the third way stuff is about.
i am just learning our populist party on du, that want to do to dems what teabaggers did to repugs. i am simply trying to understand that right now.

(19,877 posts)Calling for more people to enter the Democratic primary are the same ones calling for Hillary to "step down". How um....democratic?
Hillary supporters want a robust campaign with lots of candidates and will support the nominee, its the anti-Hillary crowd who seems to want a coronation of one very specific candidate. Wink wink.

her candidacy. i am not a supporter. but do not ignore her experience, political background, accomplishments, credentials. she gets to run. i have yet to hear people say, she is mine, dont get yours.
i am excited for sanders. i am not throwing him to the side of the road, cause clinton is in the race.

(19,877 posts)Has the same dream ticket: Warren/Sanders. And I'm sure we all have the same nightmare: a Republican president. Which is why I will gladly support whoever the Dem nominee is to the fullest. I think we can all agree that a "centrist" Dem (as they like to call Hillary) is still FAAAAAR better than a far right nutjob.

(4,805 posts)It does not look good on a preteen girl (where it can be expected) and looks absolutely disingenuous and pitiful when coming from a grown man. I mean just really sad to see it.

I guess some never grow out of this need for attention. But as you say to see it in grown middle aged types is just sad .

(4,193 posts)You did mention "talking about our political views", like, this is the GD thread for discussing political views. Which is fine, I guess it's on-topic, but then it's hard to reckon what the non-meta takeaway is from your post. People said stuff, somewhere, so let's clear the air?

(11,804 posts)Whatever that message happens to be - sometimes those techniques or tactics are effective at convincing me and sometimes they aren't - but they presumably work on other people.
Having a discussion about what issues we support - i think it could be useful, but it is probably going to be problematic. We all have different issues that we 1) care about, 2) know about, and 3) are able to communicate passionately about.
On top of that you have to consider what we might consider baseline issues - issues you don't have big arguments over or passionate arguments on because you assume they to be baseline issues; any serious democratic candidate will have the right position on those issues.
One methodology might be to take a set of issues - and then ask the following questions.
1. Is this a baseline issue for you - i.e. you wouldn't vote for any candidate who didn't share your position on it?
2. Is this an issue that you care deeply about and think about often? (if an issue is a baseline issue, you probably care about it a great deal, but you might not think about it that often).
3. Is it an issue that you know a fair amount about?
4. Is it an issue that you are able to argue about passionately (which is probably just a reflection of 2 and 3)?
I do agree that most of us have generally liberal views; one of the things that sets me off is when some one argues essentially that DU is full of conservatives who aren't really liberal, because they aren't paying attention to the specific issue they want to talk about.
And I do appreciate your posts - I don't always agree, but think they are always worth reading.
