General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo you think Bernie will run against Obama in the primary?
I'm not asking if he'll run in opposition to some of his policies, I think that's clear. Do you think he'll actively run against Barack Obama? I know it's a weird question, since Obama isn't running, but that doesn't change the fact he has a legacy. Does Bernie embrace that legacy or does he do a complete 180 from the President and actively go against his legacy - like the GOP will, but from the left?
Will he ignore Obama and focus on Hillary?
If he runs against Obama's legacy - do you think will be successful when Obama holds historic approval among Democrats? What do you think such a play could mean for black support - who remain extremely proud of the Obama presidency?
Do you think Bernie will disavow his ACA vote?
Can you be an Obama supporter and also support Bernie?
Right now, I'm leaning toward voting Bernie but must admit don't feel like his supporters even care to have my vote. That last question is the important one - can I still consider myself an Obama Democrat and vote for Bernie?

(38,613 posts)He's adopted a sort of "Let Hillary speak for herself, I have issues to discuss" approach so far. And it's pretty god-damned refreshing!

(14,255 posts)Obama. Or do you think that wanting, say, Single Payer, is "running against Obama"?

(54,770 posts)They may start off with good intentions, but if they are down in the polls, they'll do all kinds of desperate crud in the hopes of moving up.
I'd say that about any candidate.
If Bernie can make us more like Scandinavian countries in my life-time, I'm all for it.

(11,619 posts)If his policies, such as the TPP, are opposed to President Obama's stand, that doesn't mean he is running against the President.
I think he will continue to say that the ACA is a good bill but did not go far enough.
I support many of President Obama's policies. I oppose some of his policies. I prefer to look at politics through the lens of policy rather than root for a specific candidate.

(182,800 posts)Something like "President has done great but we can continue and do better".
I don't think he goes after Hillary. Bernie will harken back to the W years and become the lone voice (since the media won't) of the huge growth and changes that have been made since those dark days.

(45 posts)Bernie has consistently stood up for the ACA and his vote for it. He then goes on to talk about the need for single-payer.

(14,971 posts)Bernie has said numerous times he's not going to run a negative campaign. We have a group if you'd like to join. http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1280

(2,962 posts)You can be an Obama supporter and support Bernie as well. I support the President and I'm supporting Bernie. I can't see him running against anyone except the Bozos in the GOP clown car. Even there he will talk issues and not personalities. He may just run the most positive campaign we've seen in a long time.

(14,881 posts)not "against" anybody. He is very adroit at deflecting 'gotcha' questions trying to pit him against Hillary. He'll do the same with any Obama questions. He simply sticks to the issues in a very clear way.
"...must admit don't feel like his supporters even care to have my vote."
Don't know where the above is coming from.

(38,687 posts)My gut says yes. I initially felt Hillary would be the best choice mostly because she's the safest, most pragmatic option. But a voice inside my head keeps saying, fuck that, go with the guy who speaks to you. Things are starting to get interesting...
BTW...this just landed in my inbox. From DNC 2016. I thought the DNC were the bad guys.

(34,857 posts)I think Bernie and Obama have been on the same page far more than not. So, from my perspective, the leap to supporting Obama to Bernie isn't difficult.
