(9,086 posts)Police are no more trustworthy than any other random person you run into on the street

(21,020 posts)no less trustworthy than some of the people they end up arresting.
Cop after pulling over a drunk driver: "How many drinks have you had, sir?"
Drunk: "Two beers" (standard answer, BTW)
Cop administers breathalyzer and the drunk blows 2x the legal limit.
Cop: "Any drugs or paraphernalia on your person?
Suspect: "No. I swear on my mom's life!!"
Cop finds drugs. Suspect pleads ignorance even though drugs were pulled from his pockets in front of a camera.
So. People don't trust cops. Cops don't trust people.
That's not to say that cops are justified in lying about evidence or charges because they're not.
But I can understand, to some extent, how they become cynical and feel they have to fight fire with fire.

(10,622 posts)I had little to no beef with what the upper and middle class would call "low life" people that were my neighbors and often my friends.
The police on the other hand were nearly always aggressive thugs that would beat us for laughs and to teach us "respect" - the fact that they were beating on tweens and teens without provocation or any clear reason never appeared to deter them.
They were the vicious gangs, they appeared to delight in causing pain to any and all in the neighborhood and then return to their suburban homes and (I assume) commence beating their wives and discuss gleefully how brave they were for turning a few 14 year old poor kids into bleeding bruised and terrorized messes.
This was many years ago, I doubt they have gotten better, in fact they appear to prefer killing to beating these days to show the "scum" kids just who is "boss"
I will never forget, I will never forgive how I learned about them growing up.
