Florida nabs white supremacists planning "race war"

(Reuters) - Ten alleged members of a white supremacist group training near Orlando and Disney World for a "race war" have been rounded up in a series of arrests in central Florida, authorities said on Tuesday.

The arrests were based on evidence from a confidential informant who infiltrated the neo-Nazi organization known as the American Front 17 months ago, according to an arrest affidavit.

"The American Front (AF) is a military-styled, anti-Semitic, white supremacist, skinhead organization and is known as a domestic terrorist organization," the affidavit said.

It said the group's alleged local ringleader, Marcus Faella, 39, had been "planning and preparing the AF for what he believes to be an inevitable race war" and had stated "his intent ... to kill Jews, immigrants and other minorities."

The eleventh and latest defendant arrested in Osceola County's round-up of suspected white supremacists posted $500,000 bond late Tuesday rather than remained jailed in the Florida panhandle, records show.

Verlin Lewis, 40, turned himself at the Washington County Jail and was released after posting his bond on charges of teaching others to cause injury or death to further civil disorder, conspiracy and showing prejudice while committing a crime

The round-up began Friday in Holopaw when the Osceola County Sheriff's SWAT team executed arrest warrants at a home owned by Marcus and Patricia Faella, leaders of the American Front's Florida chapter. The white supremacy group is linked to neo-Nazi skinheads, according to an arrest affidavit.

American Front members are accused of conducting firearms training for a race war and trying to make ricin, a toxin classified as a weapon of mass destruction.
